None of my apple devices are appearing in Windows or iTunes

Neither my iPhone 4S or my iPad 4th gen are appearing in Windows (version 8.1) or in iTunes. I checked device manager in Windows and both devices appear in 'Other Devices' as just 'iPhone' and 'iPad'. This is the device status:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There are no compatible drivers for this device.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

So I try clicking on Update Driver but it says there are none and it also says that the manufacturer for this device is unknown. I tried different ports, different cables but it is still not working.

Someone please help?

iPad, iOS 7.0.4, iPad 4th Gen
