On the app store, when I look for top free apps, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote show up. But then the little box with their price says $19.99. I got my macbook pro in August, 2012, if that makes any difference. I don't know the exact date, but if that's important, I could find it if you tell me how. I don't want to buy it if I have to pay. Pages, Numbers and Keynote are free of charge for users who have purchased a Mac after October 1st, 2013. If your Mac is older, you need to pay.
Instead of Pages, you can look for other applications that do the same job. I recommend you LibreOffice, which is free and open-source, and it is compatible with Office documents
