I have shattered my iphone 4s screen and cannot backup all the data through itunes because it is asking me to unlock it. I do not wish to repair the screen as I'd rather buy a new iphone, but I need the photos and contacts. How do I perform a backup?

I have shattered my iphone 4s screen and cannot backup all the data through itunes because it is asking me to unlock it. I do not wish to repair the screen as I'd rather buy a new iphone, but I need the photos and contacts. How do I perform a backup?

P.S.

I feel as though I am forced into repairing the iphone before I can backup the information (photos, videos, contacts). If the apple ID on the device is the same as the one on my iMac I do not understand why I have to unlock the iphone by typing in the 4 digit passcode. This is a little ******** as having the screen break seems to be the usual prpblem with the iphone, I want to be able to backup my files when I feel the obvious need to do so (eg. when it breaks)! I also believe I shouldn't have to use other apps for backing it up (which I obviously have to pay for).. I am rather angry with this issue.

Well, needless to say, backups should occur regularly before catastrophes. If you had a recent backup, you could simply purchase a new iPhone, restore from that backup, and all would be good.

So, what you're saying is that you do not backup your iPhone to either iTunes or iCloud, until after there's a problem? Even though both services are completely free?

You chose to use a passcode to protect your device from unauthorized access.

You chose to NOT perform regular backups of your device.

How is any of that Apple's fault?

You're angry? Angry at yourself I assume, since iCloud backups are brain dead simple to set up and happen AUTOMATICALLY once you do. You have no one but yourself to blame here. It's not even as thought the phone suffered a failure because of a manufacturing defect. YOU BROKE IT.

iTunes and iCloud are completely free....what Apps are you talking about? One is a free set up for 5 /free/ GB's of space which considering hey...I don't know let's just say a million icloud accounts that's 5 million GB's of stroage they are making 0 money from.

And iTunes...you have to use that to sync music, .3.

Okay folkes, you were right and I was wrong.. 🙂 I admit it. But I was pretty mad though when I tryed to backup the last few contacts I needed for work and couldn't do so. Worst things are when something gets broken (by me or whatever) when there is an emergency. I needed the contacts off of that phone real fast and couldn't do it, thats what got me real mad. And btw I am a Russian living in Moscow and instead of having an official Apple store we have shopes called ReStore who resell apple devices with ridiculous prices, same thing with the repairs. It is cheaper to sometimes buy a new iphone then repair an old one.. So there.. but I repaired it and now happy again with my apple device.. Also I know the itunes and icloud are free and I do back it up, this time however I couldn't use them and had to try the iphone extractor app, which is not free. There.. Thanks for the attention every1

Its sad how everyone decided to attack you instead of answering your question...Any help on what to do once the free icloud is full and your phone breaks while on vacation? No laptop to have it backed up in the moment... Sooo then what do you do to retrieve new photos, new contacts ect......
