windows 8.1 itunes wont recognize ipad

I just did everything that Mario said and it doesn't work. It recognises both my ipad 2 and my iphone as "iphone" and it continues to say 'error occured'. I have uninstalled Itunes and the software completely and re-installed it. I too have experienced this issue after my windows 8 updated. I just tried again and now it does not recognise my ipad air. Do you think if i downloaded itunes on a different computer it would work? Any suggestions guys?

Thank you so much for your excellent information regarding iPhone/iPad not being recognised by Windows 8.1, I followed your instructions to the letter and all are now working perfectly. I tried all the other suggestions on the forum but yours was the only one that did the business, you are a star!

A big thank you to Texas(Tom), followed one of his provided links and found this How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows Everything else in this thread and all over the forums didn't work, but this did. Thanks again.

I have to add my kudos for your response...saved me uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, standing on my head, patting my head while rubbing my stomach, hopping on one foot in a circle, and doing the mashed potato while re-starting my iPad. Worked like a charm. THANK YOU!
