windows 8.1 itunes wont recognize ipad

I looked into your description;

When I came to "Go to your Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound" I saw that I have a problem already there.

That option is not listed like that on my PC.

Only sound is listed.

I have laptop using windows 8.1 and after I installed the latest updates to my iPad 2 iOS 7.1.2and iTunes 11.3.1.2 I cannot see my iPhone or iPad in iTunes any more.

What can I do to rectify this problem?

I just tried this for my iPad 4with windows 8.1 and when I click on ok for the install I receive an error message--the folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems. The file is listed at usbaapl64.

So I tried everything posted here. I updated drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled itunes multiple times. All I got was a wiped itunes with no ******* music on my iPad. All I can say is **** Microsoft and Apple for becoming as big of douchebags as the democrats and republicans. so ******* unwilling to work together that we all get screwed. I got the HP 8.1 computer for free in a contest and I'm shipping it back tomorrow and going back to my ancient XP computer to back up my apple devices

I had just done the latest update for Windows and then the latest for Itunes. As soon as the latest update for Itunes was done, my Ipad stopped being recognized. I came to this thread (as well as many other places on the net) and followed many of the steps that offered solutions for some. I was about to start crying because I found nothing was working. I had uninstalled and then reinstalled Itunes - turned off and then back on my computer as well as my Ipad, etc....I finally decided to look for more videos on YouTube (one did not work at all) and came across this one. After I watched this video and follwed the steps, my Ipad was suddenly recognized and I was able to complete the sync. According to the maker of the vid:

I hope you found a solution. I was having the problem and one YouTube vid guy said that the latest Itunes update did not include the installation of the Apple Mobile Device USB driver. I hope you found a solution. It had been very frustrating for me and this vid made my day when I was able to sync my Ipad.

Many thanks! That solved the problem. Curiously, this problem appears months after I updated to Windows 8.1. It seems to have appeared when I updated to iTunes 12.1. The solution is perfect, though I have to run through the protocol separately for each device. Thanks, again.
