cold macbook and warm hands, wet outside aluminum

Hello!

First i want to say merry Christmas!

Im a new macbook user and i have a question.

I nearly buy one macbook pro with retina screen, but when it was new out of the box its was a bit cold, after i open it and hold it under with my hand under the laptop for about 5 minutes, then it was water outside the aluminum under the macbook, because the cold aluminum material and my warm hand, it make water because of the temprature difference.

The question is if it could be damp inside the macbook because it got damp water outside when i hold it cold condition for about 5 minutes?

Cold aluminium been touched with warm body make it to damp, but will it just keep it outside so we only need to dry it away or can it be the same problem on the other side of the aluminum inside the macbook?

I dont know if its a stupid question or not,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities

Unless water gets inside the keys of your keyboard, it's quite difficult that it gets inside your MacBook Pro. Your MacBook Pro has got an unibody case, so it makes difficult that liquid gets inside unless it does that through the keyboard.

In my opinion, you can carry on using your new MacBook Pro without any issue. However, if you are not sure if it got inside, I think you should return it. Remember to make backups of your files with Time Machine

I see, i have no liquids on it, i just want to ask because when i hold it out of the box, then it was created water/damp outside the aluminum under the macbook before i turn it on (hold it under for 5 minutes or so, i dont know but i think maby the damp also could show inside the macbook, or if it not possible becuse its only keep outside between the warm hand and cold body.

It is like you touch cold steel, glass or aluminum for a long time, you will get water outside the material and in this case i wonder if it could be the same inside or it just keep it outside where we physical touch it.

Do not worry about that. It cannot get inside, so there's nothing to be worried about

I think you understand my question.

Im not so good in english but i mean that if it possible if the aluminum gets warm up from the inside when we touch it in cold condition so its been damp inside (just like it be outside between the hand and body) or its just damp there we touch and inside dosent get the close contact so it could make damp off been warm up by the hand outside of the body 🙂

its EASY for condensation to form inside your Macbook if you bring it in from the cold into a warm place and take it out before its adjusted to the room temp.

Most macbook internal corrosion comes from this occurrence.

The fan vents in the back are a giant open 'door' for warm air to cause condensation on the logic board

A couple of times are ok, dont let it become a habit

Why your MacBook needs a warm coat too

While you should never store your notebook in a cold car for any significant time (couple hours or more), in cases where a notebook is being carried thru cold weather in a case, having a padded and zippered (not just a sleeve!) case is very important not just to protect your Macbook from a shock from being bumped or accidentally dropped, but for thermal protection. In coming in from a cold walk or environment, an unprotected and cold notebook is subject to condensation forming not only on the alloy casing but more importantly on internal parts and the logic board which is to be avoided at all costs. Namely when turned on and the fan kicks on and blows warm air around the cold logic board condensation can form and in worst cases either eventually produce a fault or lead to compounded problems where corrosion forms inside your Macbook.

For transporting in the cold, your notebook needs more than a sleeve, rather a padded / insulated carry case to prevent temperature fluctuation from causing condensation.

With your hands I think it is quite difficult that it gets inside, and if it gets inside, it will not be very important. However, with big temperature differences in a room it may cause a serious issue as Plotinus said

Thanks for all answers i have got, yes its important to let it be warm up slowly before we turn it on, it have been stored in the stock in the shop, and been out for transport same day.

The package dosnt feel cold, and i let it stand in the room for a hour before i turn it on, i just wanted to ask because i find it strange when i got water on the surrface when i hold it in my hand.

The aluminum feels icecold very fast if its turned off and stored i a room with a bit colder temprature then rest of the house.
