how to remove pdf file password on Mac?

This process did not work for my particular document. When in Preview, I was still prompted for the password. However, I did find a way using a similar method.

1. upload the document to google drive.
2. Open it online on google drive
3. Click the print icon on google drive
4. A print window will appear. In the print window click "Open PDF in preview" and save file on your computer
5. Open you document on you computer.
6. Your may edit your new document

1. Open the restricted file in Preview
2. Choose File: Save..., or print as pdf
3. Open the saved file in Adobe Reader or Preview

A faster way would be:

1. Right click the PDF file.

2. Open with Firefox (your web browser)

3. File - Print... (Apple + P)

4. PDF - Save as PDF...

the trial version only shows the first 3 characters of the password, given they are your PDFs it may jog your memory, otherwise its $40 to buy

If you have the password and just want to save it as an unlocked .pdf, just open the password protected file (with the password) in Preview, choose Save, and change the name (don't select encrypt). The new .pdf file created should open without a password.

All of these posts mentioning special software look to me like advertisements for software no one needs. All you have to do is (a) rename the file in Preview or (b) print PDF from Preview, or (c in Preview press File/Export as PDF. All of these remove the need for a password.

I dont think you need any special software to remove PDF password. You can simply do that from preiew. I saw this post explained well with screen shots.

I used iPubsoft PDF password remover mac app two month ago, I have to say it really works great! most of my PDF file can be edited now!

Yep, this works for me, no special tools required, so long as you already know the password and you just want to remove the protection from the PDF file. With OS X 10.10.1, I used Preview's File->Export as PDF... menu command to save the unprotected version.

You can rename your file and save it in a different folder. You can then edit it. That works for me.
