Work switched to android.. Now I am not receiving texts from iPhone users.

My work recently had us switch to android. Now when my friends text me they send texts as iMessages and the messages go through, but I am unable to receive any of the messages. They do not default to SMS. If the user selects to send as a text the text will go through.

However, this is not an option on group chats... So for example I am in a chat with 2 people and it was previously iMessage they still continue to chat in iMessage with no indication that I do not recieve the text.

I have never used iCloud or any other apple/mac device on my account.

I have deleted the iphone from my apple account.

I have changed my password.

I have deleted my phone number from my apple account.

What else do I need to do in order to get these text messages? I no longer have access to the iPhone.

Thanks!

iPhone 4S, iOS 7

Hi ChrisJ4203,

I don't think I'm explaining my issue clearly, I understand how group messaging works. However, I've always been able to send a group text to everyone (whether they are iphone users or not). If there is a mix of users on the group message it's sent as an SMS, not imessage. I'm fine with that. However, now people that had iphones, that switch to andriod, my group messages are still being sent as imessages. The group message is not discerning that they are no longer an iphone user. Once it's sent, I don't have the option to "resend as a text message" (like you do in an individual text). I'm able to send group SMS messages though when there is someone on the message that has never had an iphone.

You would think that this is the problem of the user that switched from iphone to android. Whether these imessages are being delivered on another mac product or they didn't deregister their phone. BUT, other people with iphones are able to group message these same people. That's why I think it's my phone with the issue.

I've reset my network settings. I'm tempted to reset all settings, but that seems like such a hassel. I tried to contact apple support, but they want to charge me $20. I was hoping to figure out this issue on a forum, since there is so much information out there.

I'm also experiencing huge delays on my text messages occasionally. I'm not sure if these problems are part of the same issue.

I'm having this same issue. It doesn't seem to be happening across the board though (or I don't have a setting right). Among my groups of friends, this seems to only happen when the user switched from an iphone to and adroid. However, some people with iphones are able to send group messages to everyone. I am not. All my group messages send as imessages.

I know this doesn't help you, I am just hoping to find an answer to this as well. At first I thought it was the android user, but now that other iphone users are able to send group texts, I think it's my phone.

Or it may be the case that not all the other iphone users have updated their software.

Thanks!

TThank you ChrisJ4203. However this does not help in my situation. At first I thought it was the "fault" of the android user, (either that they had to turn iMessage off, or that the iMessages were being delivered to an iPad or Mac book). But other iphone users, in the same group texts, are able to send texts, not iMessages, to the android users. That's why I think it's something that can be corrected on my phone (iphone4s w/ iOS 7.0.4).

I'm sorry, my original response was to the other poster, not to you. The only setting there is for group messages is in the Messages settings area. iMessages can only be sent between iOS devices, that is why they are sending SMS instead of iMessage. So you are saying that you have an iPhone and you are having trouble receiving group texts from Android users. Or is it that you are having trouble sending group messages? Have I understood your correctly? Android users do not have the option to send iMessages. Group messages are generally sent as MMS, unless you are only sending to all iPhones.

You are correct in your assumption that this is normally the problem of the person that has switched from the iPhone to Android. Are the persons that are not receiving your group message have their phone numbers labeled as iPhone or mobile in your contact list. Some people have reported that this can make a difference with iMessage. I cannot say, since I have not seen this difference. I do not know of any other reason that would not happen, and I have not read of others having the issue that they cannot send to Android phones. You can try the reset, however I'm not so sure that it requires any changes on your phone. Can you check to see if there is something different settings wise on the friends with iPhones that are able to group these people you cannot? I just read your last line now about delays. Since you have already reset network settings, you could check with your provider to see if they can reset your texting provision and see if that helps.

I ended up reseting all settings on my phone, and the problem corrected itself. I'm extremely happy. None of my data or apps were lost. The only inconvienence is that all my settings had to be reconfigured. (alerts, ringtones, wallpaper, etc.) Not a big deal in the long run, wish I would have just tried it sooner! But thank you for your help!!

I just assisted my customer with this and after two weeks of Apple offering a workaround And verifying her Apple ID was deleted, I did some troubleshooting of my own and noted two things...

When she went to her new android phone (regardless of provider) from the Iphone her contacts were transferred directly from the old iphone.

I recommend that she remove the contacts that were iPhones and re-add. When they were saved originally they defaulted to an iMessage/FaceTime contact and this is why she was not able to receive.

Once she deleted and re-entered the contact all her text messages came through. I would also recommend the iphone user deleting and re-adding the contact info of the party they are trying to text message as well.

Hope it works for you too.
