Do I need to erase my mac if I am migrating new pc files into that mac

I have had a Macbook pro for two years. I recently bought a Macbook Air and and handing down the pro to my wife who is a first time mac user. She wants to migrate all of her pc contents. Do I need to erase the Mac before I do the migration?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

There is no need to erase anything on the Mac to migrate data to it.

You might find the PC Migration Assistant at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1557 helpful. It will move those things that can be used on the Mac because not everything on a PC will work on a Mac.
