No where does it states that opening the iPhone voids the warranty.

Just that damage caused when opening by other than Apple or ASSP is not covered under the warranty.

f) to damage caused by service (including upgrades and expansions) performed by anyone who is not a representative of Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (“AASP”);

The above was included in an edit to my post. It doesn't say the warranty is void, but it does state that damage caused by service performed by anyone other than Apple or an AASP.

Chris: agreed. It's funny that ssschmidt went so far as to somehow come to believe that you agreed with him about whether

"The FTC's Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 PREVENTS Apple from voiding the warranty simply due to a customer's opening of an iPhone. "

Glad I'm no longer the lone voice of sanity in this thread on this point. And you're a level 9 user, unlike me.

(No one is disputing that the warranty doesn't apply to damagedirectly caused by the installation/placement of an after-market battery upgrade performed by anyone who is not a representative of Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (“AASP”).)

"When"? That comment is a bit threatening.

An iPhone is working just fine after I opened it up, replaced the battery, and put it back together. No damage was done; I believe it's working as well as ever. But I noticed that there are some lousy instructions out there. Hence my original question ot the OP:

"What instructions did you use?"

Exactly. I've had Apple repair multiple Apple products under warranty that I had opened to, for example, replace a hard drive, even though the servicing was not supported by Apple's public product documentation. I didn't hide that fact from the Geniuses I dealt with.
