Why does mail archive my gmail emails?

Why does mail archive my gmail emails? I did not ask for it and I can't stop it.

Thank you all of this thread. This was driving me nuts.

Unfortunately now though I have 2 years of deleted emails in Archive and I don't think you can simply delete all? I do see some in here that I would want to keep and those that are in my inbox. I'm assuming if I delete them here, they're gone for good even if they're in my inbox or other folder?

BTW, on my mac where I can view this Archive folder/box, is that storing local copies of these emails or am I viewing just what's on the server?

It would likely be better to use the Gmail web portal to manage what is in the All Mail Label, but you can do it from Mail.

I haven't tested what happens when you have something in Inbox and Archive and you delete from Archive. As Gmail can tag a message with multiple Labels (Inbox and All Mail), my understanding is that it should just remove the tag associated with the Mailbox from which you delete the message. However, I cannot test that theory as I have All Mail disabled and I have gmail set up to delete messages that I delete and not leave them in All Mail.
