iPhone 5: Blue Screen and Restarting Issue

I have an iPhone 5 and am running iOS 7.0.04. Just a few days ago my phone has had the following issues:

1) Phone randomly restarts

2) While using the phone, system will crash and the result is the Blue Screen of death. Only way to get out of this crash is to do a manual restart

3) While using phone, screen will start flickering, lines will appear on screen and I will either get a Blue Screen or a White Screen.

I have done the following to date:

1) Backed up Phone and synced/restored from my Computer

2) Erased all settings and restored from iCloud Backup

My phone is out of warranty and I think if I take it back to the Apple Store they will tell me I'm SOL.

Just wanted to know if people think this is a Hardware or Software issue.

Hungrycactus,

I have the same problem with my iPhone 5c and I'm gonna check it out in apple centre today. Since Im from Malaysia, and Im actually going to the apple authorised service centre, do u think they will know about putting the phone into DFU and reinstalling if I tell them to do so. I just don't want to be cheated and asked to pay for something that was not the cause of the entire problem. Please help. TQ

I did what you said and I managed to get into the DFU mode. While it was installing the screen turned blue again. Then I couldn't get into the DFU mode after that but I somehow got into the recovery mode and restored the system. Its working perfectly fine now. God knows how long it would be. Why would apple make its consumers life so difficult.

For what it's worth....

Dropped iphone 5S and cracked screen. had screen replaced by local company (who replace them all the time seemingly without incident). Started getting BSOD and battery percentage indicator stuck at whatever level it shows when the phone is started. Sent off for repair (under own insurance), returned saying fixed but problem still remains (BSOD, restartes, etc etc)

And then I discovered something. My iphone is like someone who wakes up on the wrong side of bed and needs a coffee before they are vaguely likeable. In the mornings I switch on my iphone AND DON'T USE IT. For a period of about 10 minutes or so it will randomly restart, but then after a while it stops doing this (provided I have not tried to use it during this time). From this point on, the phone works fine for the rest of the day. So, for me, this has 'solved' the problem. Yes it's not ideal, but at least it gives me a workable phone for the day.

Like I say, for what it's worth....

If you experience this again, rather than waiting for the phone to drain completely, performing a force restart on the iPhone! Not an ideal solution obviously as it doesn't solve the root of the problem, but definitely better than waiting for the battery to die!

To perform a force restart- Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.

Problems and symptoms..

  • Screen turns blue and reboots
  • Battery percentage does not change unless your reboot.

Cause

  • If you had your screen replaced and the screws removed where installed in the wrong position - screws have different lengths because one screw whole has a circuit right underneath it that could be damaged if the wrong screw was inserted.
  • Did you have your battery replaced - some after market batteries can cause this problem, make sure to use the original iphone battery for your model.

Fix

The battery I ordered from ebay was not original causing the blue screen, reboot, and battery percentage problem. Bought the original Apple battery with part number and that fixed all issues.

Hope this helps...

Thanks

This is happening to me too, constantly. During restore through iTunes I would get various errors, with error codes ranging from 5, 9, 29, 4013, 4005, 4014, 2000 (something), etc...

Often during restore the BSOD would reappear and I'd have to start the whole process over again. I even updated the OS to Yosemite (which thankfully has been fine) to try and make it work. Finally the phone restored last week and I used an iTunes backup to restore my apps/data etc. Then the next day it died again.

After two more days of trying I got the phone to restore again so set it up as a new device. It worked ok but I couldn't resist the temptation to set up my online accounts (e.g. for mail). After doing this it was ok for an hour or two, but then crashed again. I haven't had it working since.

I'm going to try to restore it as new device again and then do nothing to it for a few days (beyond calls and text messages). If it still crashes then it must be a hardware problem.

Any advice greatly appreciated!!
