iPhone 5: Blue Screen and Restarting Issue

I have an iPhone 5 and am running iOS 7.0.04. Just a few days ago my phone has had the following issues:

1) Phone randomly restarts

2) While using the phone, system will crash and the result is the Blue Screen of death. Only way to get out of this crash is to do a manual restart

3) While using phone, screen will start flickering, lines will appear on screen and I will either get a Blue Screen or a White Screen.

I have done the following to date:

1) Backed up Phone and synced/restored from my Computer

2) Erased all settings and restored from iCloud Backup

My phone is out of warranty and I think if I take it back to the Apple Store they will tell me I'm SOL.

Just wanted to know if people think this is a Hardware or Software issue.

I hope you did not pay for your new phone as apples' good quality and steve jobs have both left this world.

I totally agree i had battery problems and went into apple store earlier this year they told me everything is fine when it wasn't I was having the same problems.

And this morning its just packed in and 2 lines into a message they tell me its out of warranty and that if i was to repair it i would be charged. Clever marketing if you ask me when its under warranty don't offer to repair it and when its out of warranty 1st option is that.

The new IOS 8.2 just released a few days ago for the watch this is also a couple days after apple Itunes was having problems delivering service. SOOOOO My original iPhone 16GB that iv had for close to 3 years is getting close to kicking the bucket...Iv gone through 3 screens and Iv experienced this problem before, but it has not happened in about 3-5 months (before I got a new screen), but with the first time it happened what i had to do was connect my phone to the computer to do the update of IOS 8 instead of updating over WiFi, that fixed the problem I was having. The MOST RECENT as of 3/12/15. My IPhone would start freezing on the apple logo on the home screen and while in use. I would get a variety of items shown starting with a blue screen (like blue screen of death), black screen, screen would freeze then fad and restart, freeze and start making black lines vertically, its turned the screen red and all green like Christmas almost. I just got off the customer support they were trying to be as helpful as they could. Suggested to restore it...but I didn't have my contacts or other things setup. This is my and was my last resort. See what happened was the IPhone was working, but still freezing before the update.... Then attempting an update to maybe "fix" the problem only became worse... after the update my IPhone would start freezing on the apple logo and fad and turn off and reboot over and over and over.... I watched this happen over 100+ times having to manually restart it.. When restoring it would continuously mess up and I had to try to report it about 5 times before it worked. I'm determined to trying to fix things and I did but with the cost of everything on my phone ):

I Had this problem too, BSOD, sudden shutdown, difficult restart and shaky startup screen. I put it in the freezer overnight and it restarted fine only to crash 20 minutes later but it reminded me of a problem that I had before. Some time back the phone would shut down even with a full charge but would stay on when kept warm. Luckily I had a spare battery so replaced it and lo and behold, problem solved! The previous battery, although new, had been badly refurbished and was causing the crash.

I had the same issue with my iPhone 5S. After calling AppleCare and going to 3 different genius appointments, one of the Genius said he knew the problem. He said it's a problem introduced after iOS 8.x where the firmware is problematic. All my updates were OTA (aka patches), and so the firmware wasn't correctly patched or something. Anyway, even though my phone was stuck in recovery mode and claimed by other Genius' that a $269 replacement was the only way, this one Genius was able to get the phone into DFU (only way to replace the underly firmware. Recovery mode does not replace problematic firmware) and completely replace the erroneous firmware. Phone works again!!!! Hope this helps you guys!!!!

Hi guys, I had the same problem 2 days ago, once my iphone was actualized to 8.2 iOS version, it begin to fail equal to this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVUVHqalcJU, so I tried to restore too many times but was impossible, always that I tried my iphone showed blue screen and was reset. latter was using my macBookAir, Finally, I created a windows virtual machine in vmware which I installed iTunes and through it, I fixed the problem. In conclusion, I thing that mi old itunes had a failure version of iOS and always I tried, it fail, so when I installed the new iTunes, this time whether download the version without errors.

Hungrycactus,

I have the same problem with my iPhone 5c and I'm gonna check it out in apple centre today. Since Im from Malaysia, and Im actually going to the apple authorised service centre, do u think they will know about putting the phone into DFU and reinstalling if I tell them to do so. I just don't want to be cheated and asked to pay for something that was not the cause of the entire problem. Please help. TQ

For what it's worth....

Dropped iphone 5S and cracked screen. had screen replaced by local company (who replace them all the time seemingly without incident). Started getting BSOD and battery percentage indicator stuck at whatever level it shows when the phone is started. Sent off for repair (under own insurance), returned saying fixed but problem still remains (BSOD, restartes, etc etc)

And then I discovered something. My iphone is like someone who wakes up on the wrong side of bed and needs a coffee before they are vaguely likeable. In the mornings I switch on my iphone AND DON'T USE IT. For a period of about 10 minutes or so it will randomly restart, but then after a while it stops doing this (provided I have not tried to use it during this time). From this point on, the phone works fine for the rest of the day. So, for me, this has 'solved' the problem. Yes it's not ideal, but at least it gives me a workable phone for the day.

Like I say, for what it's worth....

This is happening to me too, constantly. During restore through iTunes I would get various errors, with error codes ranging from 5, 9, 29, 4013, 4005, 4014, 2000 (something), etc...

Often during restore the BSOD would reappear and I'd have to start the whole process over again. I even updated the OS to Yosemite (which thankfully has been fine) to try and make it work. Finally the phone restored last week and I used an iTunes backup to restore my apps/data etc. Then the next day it died again.

After two more days of trying I got the phone to restore again so set it up as a new device. It worked ok but I couldn't resist the temptation to set up my online accounts (e.g. for mail). After doing this it was ok for an hour or two, but then crashed again. I haven't had it working since.

I'm going to try to restore it as new device again and then do nothing to it for a few days (beyond calls and text messages). If it still crashes then it must be a hardware problem.

Any advice greatly appreciated!!
