iPhone 5: Blue Screen and Restarting Issue

I have an iPhone 5 and am running iOS 7.0.04. Just a few days ago my phone has had the following issues:


1) Phone randomly restarts

2) While using the phone, system will crash and the result is the Blue Screen of death. Only way to get out of this crash is to do a manual restart

3) While using phone, screen will start flickering, lines will appear on screen and I will either get a Blue Screen or a White Screen.


I have done the following to date:

1) Backed up Phone and synced/restored from my Computer

2) Erased all settings and restored from iCloud Backup


My phone is out of warranty and I think if I take it back to the Apple Store they will tell me I'm SOL.


Just wanted to know if people think this is a Hardware or Software issue.

Same problem here, Im running the latest version of iOS 7 on my iphone 5S (ipod 5S) bricked lol. It was working fine and then a mates baby grabbed my phone and dropped it (not very high) then it went off so i turned it on and BAM i got the grey backround with the apple logo on it so, I waited, Then it went to BSOD and got stuck in that loop, I then done a manual reset I was able to turn it off thats all. I tried restore in recovery mode with the latest itunes it come up with Unknown Error, error code (14) (something to do with unreconizable USB) tried many diffrent USB ports but sadly nothing, I then tried DFU mode with itunes still not working. Im really stuck on this one I need some assitance PLEASE! HELP!

We ended up having to get a re-manufactured phone from apple for my wife's 5s. Couldn't take it anymore, the phone became so glitchy it was a complete nightmare to operate. My phone has been decent since the recovery more restore however recently it's been starting to act up. Called the carrier and they sent me a new SIM card to see if this remedy a the issue. Don't buy this being a hardware issue, just so happens to be prompted by software initially? Think the update changes something in the registery /initial codes and the official fix is having to swap your phone out. We are such a small # percentage wise in comparison to all 5s owners that apple isn't going to do anything. It's sad but that's the truth. I own so many apple products, what if his happened to my MacBook pros, or iMac, I'd be screwed because I'm out of warranty with those. These phones are probably the last apple products I purchase and that's really sad, never thought I'd leave apple in a million years. My wife and I bought our phones on different days from different stores and we use different computers. The only common denominator is the software update.


Reality--- Apple quality and Steve Jobs have something in common, their both gone.

My wife's new 5s is great honestly. Buying an older iPhone and running the newest iOS is always a pain in the butt. I would swap your phone out at apple honestly. Don't swap it with your carrier, there's a huge difference between refurbished (carrier replacement) and remanufactured (Apple store replacement). I'm just upset because I paid full retail $750 for mine and it's only 3 months old

If it's a software issue do you think they will admit it? Apple is known for software more so than hardware. To say there's a software problem can get others to question other product lines. 97% of people on this thread say the same thing. After updating the SOFTWARE their phone started acting up. How can software trigger a hardware problem??? If you hard drive on you computer shorts out does that mean your computer screen cracks the glass??? Y blaming the hardware they can justify the corrective action which is a device swap. Admitting its software means every iPhone 5s has to have new software rewritten. Hardware means just the select few (us) have to be addressed.

I've never owned a perfect iphone. 3GS had a slightly raised top corner, 4s had a slight yellow tint (replacement had a wiggly home button that finally solidified), 5s had dead pixels and slight gap (replacement had a perfect screen but slight edge gaps at the top and slightly squishy volume buttons). At first they're annoying but I've learned to live with these design flaws.


Despite these flaws, an iphone is better than no iphone. Stop being tech hypochondriacs. Live with it or use a different brand.

I'm new to the thread, I thought it was a battery issue. The first day the BSOD happened it was 97 degrees and I was charging my phone in the car, after going to three different Apple stores. The not so helpful employees reset my phone and told me I was 2 week past the 90 day warranty on the replacement from the original one that had a sound issue. The prices to "fix" got higher and the problem worsened, I was told it is an LCD issue that would further corrupt the phone unless I paid $279 to have it replaced. I reset as a new phone and from backup it's now completely dead and I have to buy a new phone.

Unfortunately I went through the same thing as you. I updated my OS a few days ago and today I got the blue screen. I spent two hours with Apple Chat to determine it was an OS issue/software but when I got to the store they Apple "Genius" said it was hardware. I try resetting and hard reset neither worked. It would connect to my iTunes to restore but I would get (error 9). So that at least tells me its not hardware but the Apple "Genius" said it was. I asked him more about how he determine it was a hardware issue and his reply was "you're problem is your warranty is expired." I walked out with a new phone but reading everyone having the same issue as me means me feel like if you are out of warranty - Apple can just do updates like this and screw you. I hope you were able to fix your phone.
