Couple of things to try:
Restart your mac and try launch iPhoto again.
If that fails:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a file called ‘iPhoto’Lock.data or similar. Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If not: Where is your iPhoto Library stored? If it's on an External Disk, what format is that?
what version of iPhoto? Of the OS? where is the iPhoto libray located? what has recently changed?
Try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

It did worked once and a window open saying iphoto can't reed the file iphotolack.data it's format is not recognized.
Then I click ok, I can work in it but then, I close it. iphoto will not open again unless I do the step again. ???
1 - for new questions is is best to start new there rather than ThreadJack existing threads on different problems - click on the word "new" to the right of the "Apple support communities" at the top of the page
2 - using the finder in your Applications folder double click on the iphoto application - while it is running right click on the icon in the Dock at the bottom of the screen and select keep in dock under options

Hi Terence, I tried what you suggested - dragging the iPhoto lock data file to my desktop and then re-launching iPhoto. It is still not responding - it just hangs there, wheel turning and never opens. I have to force quit to close it.
And when you rebuild as I suggested?
Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

Do you leave that file on the desktop or can I delete it? I am having the same issue with iPhoto version 8 - not opening just spinning when I click the application.
if that fixes things and everytning is fine then delete the file on the desktop

Thanks Terence so much! I didn't restart it but the rest worked. I guess I'll be copying it to my external hard drive tonight! Oh, what do I do with the icon that's now on my desktop?
This has nothing to do with this thread - and is not clear
Please start a new thread and give a clear, concise description of oyour problem and what versions of iPhoto and of the OS you have

I think I have the same Problem. IPoto says its locked, wants to repair, asks for my password but than quits. I removed the Lock file as said above but its the same problem.
Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

No luck, thanks though. Library is not on external hard drive
So remove that file as described above.
