For some odd reason the Auto Wake/Sleep feature for the smart cover isnt working on my Ipad Air. I also cant find anything in settings where I can change that. Is there something im missing?

Try turning Settings > General > Lock / Unlock to ON.
Unfortunately, That setting does not appear under my General Settings. I have Auto Lock, Passcode Lock and Restrictions but no other options.
on some covers this works when the iPad is inserted in one orientation, but not the other.
Is this an official Apple cover? If not, that is likely the problem. Some of these covers don't have magnets in the proper place to trigger the detector in the iPad so the setting does not appear.
Is there a Setting so my smart cover works on my Ipad Air?
