The fan won't shut off on my three year old MacBook.
I have tried SMC and PRAM resets multiple times. Neither worked. The activity monitor does not show unusually high CPU usage. I'm stumped.

install iStat Pro (a widget, no longer supported but it still works well), install it in Dashboard and see what it says about the rpm for the fans, and what it says about the temperatures.
Post that here.
Hallo s,
27 is de HD temperatuur, mooi laag.
Klik het i aan de linkerkant en het widget draait naar de achterkant: daar kun je aanvinken welke gegevens worden weergegeven: de fans staan daar om aan te vinken, en de andere temperaturen.

Hi Lex;
I made sure the fan info was checked on for it to be displayed, but it's still not showing up. Neither are other temperatures. I'm suspicious that this problem is related to a new battery I bought online, which works but does not register with the system as being there.
I think maybe I just need to buy a new computer. 😟
If you have the money to buy a new computer just for that....
The battery maybe good but not as intelligent as the MBP expects, then you better contemplate buying the real thing: Apple battery is about 130$...
You can read everythig in the SystemIformation:
Hold the Alt(=option) key while clicking the little apple, the first entry is SystemInformation(where "about this mac" is normally), then under Power ("voeding" you have everything about the battery: display this part here

It is close to midnight now, depending on the social "pressures" here, it may be possible that I may come back in a few hours or tomorrow....
