Where is iTunes storing my album artwork?

It's Kind of Simple.

The artwork iTunes fetches for your songs and albums is basically embedded within the song.

What you have to do is:

1. Go to the song whose artwork you want to save
2. Right Click on that song and click"Get Info"
3. Go to Artwork Tab and click on the artwork and drag it on to your desktop and it will be saved there as most probably as a.jpeg file.

If they are stored there, they are encrypted anyway, so you would not be able to use them.

When looking through the idividual song files under itunes I can't find anything that isn't in an audio format. There are no jpegs, png, etc.

They are actually embedded in the song files. To get at it, right-click the track in the library, Get Info, go to the Artwork tab, and you should see it. You can do a Copy from there.

It will be faster to do a web search on each album title and grab the art off the web.

The artwork is either in the Album Artwork folder (if it came from the iTunes Store), or else is embedded in each song file.
