Set up Apple TV without Remote

I have spent thousands of pounds on apple products and nothing annoys me more than when the penny pinching ******** don’t give you an easy way of connecting one to make the other work.

This took ages to sort out but here it goes.

Using my laptop and mini usb I reset the Apple TV. Next up I had to use an Ethernet cable, plug it into the Apple TV and my laptop. (Apple TV needs to be plugged in to the mains)

Download the app ‘cidertv’ and pair the devices.

Unplug the mini usb and plug in the hdmi to the tv.

Boom boom boom your laptop is now the remote. Now take the Ethernet cable out and connect the Apple TV to the WiFi so I can connect my iPhone and use that as the remote (downloading another Apple TV remote app).

There’s probably an easier way but this worked for me 👌-1F3FB;

When i click on "Add a device" Remote App propose me to enter 4 digits password on Apple TV. Which i can't enter without remote =)

these are all great suggestions. Also, in a pinch you can unplug the apple tv from power for a few seconds. when you plug it back in, I believe it turns on. Then you can use the remote app on an iOS device 🙂

Ironically enough if you have an Android phone you can sign onto the Google Play store and download an "Apple TV" app which allows your android phone to control your Apple TV just as if it's the original remote.

Great tip! The Bluetooth feature was not always available in the past.

My son loves playing with remotes and finally made our apple TV remote disappear last night. Tried exactly what you suggested and worked like a charm.:)

was it a normal keyboard that you'd connect to a monitor? And did you just plug it into the tv or did you plug it into the apple tv?

@janacigler How did you plug in a keyboard? I'm having the same issue with my 3rd generation apple TV. Trying to figure out any way to get to settings without a the remote after reseting apple tv.
