Is Unicode Bangla Fonts and Unicode Bangla Keyboards are compatible with Mac OS 10.4.11?

Hi,

Please let me know if those are compatible with my MB.

I also need to know the process or method of removing or uninstalling the bangla fonts and keyboards from the system. Please guide me.

I deleted few files in removing the fonts and keyboard layout, but the Unijoy and Rapali layouts remain in the input source. Is that gonna clash if i reinstall the fonts and keyboard layout again.

After removing the fonts and keyboard layout, I opened the preference pane, then i checked the box from the input menu, then i opened the MS Word to see if the fonts and layouts are removed properly or not, i thought i won't be able to type, but i was wondering that what files i removed.

Actually I was facing trouble in typing the Conjunct bangla words since the installations, conjunct words not working as per the typing guide says. That's why i tried to remove it and install again. Now i am confused.

I look forward to your help.

Following are the system information that i am using now:

Model Name: MacBook

Model Identifier: MacBook2,1

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed: 2 GHz

Number Of Processors: 1

Total Number Of Cores: 2

L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB

Memory: 1 GB

Bus Speed: 667 MHz

Boot ROM Version: MB21.00A5.B07

SMC Version: 1.13f3

Look forward to your reply.

The system requirements for OO 4 are published by them here:

Do you meet them?

I don't understand why you would do anything with terminal, it is not relevant.

The installation instructions are at

procedures, if possible, to install the Ekushey Fonts and Keyboard Layouts

Any fonts which you download you put in Library/Fonts or Home/Library/Fonts. You should see them, in TextEdit for example, when you do Format > Fonts > Show Fonts. Keyboards normally tell you how to install them. When properly installed you will see them in System Preferences/International/Input Menu, where you have to check their box. Also before you type you have to select them in the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen.

You should also try the Onkur font and keyboard.

All of these things you should also try with TextEdit, which is already on your Mac and needs no installation.

Hello Tom,

I am Trying to troubleshoot since last 20 days. And i am gonna describe chronologically.

First, around 02 days ago, I downloaded fonts from-- http://ekushey.org/?page/mac_download

Then the keyboard layout. I first installed the fonts, then the layouts. When i found that the conjunct letters are not working, i removed the fonts and layouts. Then i reboot my machine in safe mode.

After that, again i reinstalled those, first the keyboard layout, then the font. I found similar result.

I had no idea that Office: Mac is the main issue.

So, again i removed, then reboot in safe mode. And installed the font this time at first, and keyboard at the second.

But a new trouble i faced after that. Whenever i tried to type in MS word the bangla font Rupali or SolaimanLipi is not working at all. Every time i tried to type bangla other fonts are showing up- sometimes Apple Gothic, sometimes japanese fonts, just couldn't type a single bangla letter.

Then i thought to remove and reinstall the MS Office, and fonts, and keyboard. After restarting from safe mode, i installed the keyboard first, then the font, then MS Office.

But same result, no bangla letters at all, but font book and MS Word's Font also showing bangla fonts, but nothing is made on the paper.

After that i thought to bring this matter to this forum for insight.

Just wanted to know if i have done any procedural mistake or faults.

So, when You and BDAqua were suggesting, i actually couldn't find the trouble that i must shoot.

In fact, the TextEdit and OpenOffice 4.0.1 also produced the same result.

Now i removed all of them. So can you tell me how to proceed. Which one to install first- Fonts, keyboards, OpenOffice, MS Word.

Sorry for this big one. I didn't want to describe the history. But i still think that something i done wrongly.

Please let me know or help me with a procedure/s.

Have a good day.

It does not matter what you install first or second or last for any of this. By "same result", do you mean that no Bangla shows up when you type, even though the Bangla font is selected and you have the Bangla keyboard showing in the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen?

TextEdit and OpenOffice: Yes, thats correct, in flag menu bangla keyboard selected- both Rupali and Unijoy-- one by one, SolaimanLipi font also selected, but couldn't type, as soon as i pressed the key the font is automatically changed- in most cases to Apple Gothic Font or to Japanese fonts.

Regarding MS Word: Before i was able to type other letters at least, except the conjunct letters, but now no luck at all.

Is that version of OpenOffice is the correct one for OS 10.4? If not can you please let me know the right one?

Dear Tom,

I have clicked that link, and then i clicked the link that says "proceed here", that link took me to the main download page, that i also mentioned in the big one that i sent you earlier.

I have downloaded both Rupali and Unijoy layout from that site. If you click the link that you sent to me, that will take you to this site-- http://ekushey.org/?page/mac_download.

I think i have downloaded from the right source. But don't know what is the trouble.

That sounds like something else has gone wrong with your OS. I am trying to get access to a machine with 10.4 on it and if successful will see if it works for me later today.
