can't type symbols

can't type symbols

Hello, everyone. I hope anyone can help me. I got an iMac for Christmas, so I'm still very new to this. I am from Lithuania and I have turned on lithuanian language. But when I turn it on, I can't type symbols like ! @ £ $ % ^ & * ( ). If I need to type one of those symbols, I have to change my language to british. On other computers you can hold Shift+Alt and then you can type those symbols, but on iMac I get these symbols when I do that: ŕ Ř ‹ › ř Ŗ ŗ °. Maybe anyone knows how I can type first symbols using lithuanian?

You should find the symbols available in their usual places if you hit that key (`) then do Shift+1 (to get !), Shift + 2 (to get @) etc.

It certainly is an unusual way to make a keyboard layout, I wonder where they got it.....

Use Keyboard Viewer to see everything which can be made via Shift, Option, and Option + Shift.

Where did you get your Mac? If it does not have a key between the z and the shift, it's possible some characters will be a problem with the Lithuanian layout.

Thank you both for answering. I got my Mac in UK and it has a key between z and shift. I guess I just have to change the language all the time or use character viewer.
