Why do inline images show up with a character A behind them?

I'm working on adding some fleurons/dingbats between sections of text, and I've inserted the graphics inline so that they show up in both orientations.

I've tried a .PNG file and also drew a direct vector with the pen tool in ibooks author, but they both display with a letter A behind them.

Why is this happening? How do I fix this? See attached image:

Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi again,

Still waiting to hear back on this issue. I was contacted by the support team and send the files as requested. I'm waiting to publish the book but can't solve the A behind the images problem. Can someone let me know if you are looking into this or if I should not expect an answer anytime soon. Not sure what the wait periods / answer times are in the forum.

Thanks a lot!
