Mail under 10.9.1 super slow

I'm unable even to reliably type into a compose window.

Can't select mail messages in the list and move them without long delays.

I've turned off SpamSieve (2.9.12) hoping that would help but it didn't do much if anything.

I'm on 10.9.1 with fully updated software.

Any ideas ?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), 20GB RAM, SSD boot drive, i7

I wish that solution worked for my system. I was always able to watch an mp4 with the mail app open. Now, whether I start up the mail app before or after QT, the video is stalled and staggered. Bringing the mail to the foreground is a 2-second slow-motion visual affair.

The best is to start your own (NEW) discussion to get more response concerning the issue you described.

This treat will not give you that.

I personally don't know the answer to it.

Thanks to everyone participating in this thread.

I personally have tried everything from the links and suggestions here but alas, I'm still stuck with a very unresponsive Mail.app.

I tried :

1. deleting cache.db from the Containers/etc. folder

2. starting with the SHIFT key

3. deleting the Envelope files

4. turning off other email accounts

In fact I tried all 4 several times each.

It should be noted that my home iMac and MacBookPro do NOT seem to be nearly as bad about this. It's just this work iMac (fully updated, fast SSD boot drive, 20GB RAM, etc.)

Still hoping for a solution ...
