Compressor to Final Cut

Hi everyone,

So I was having trouble with laggy video playback so after clicking around through forums, I discovered that it was due to the fact the my voice-overs were recorded in 44.1khz as opposed to 48khz, which is what the rest of my audio is.

I was happy to discover the solution to my problem, but now have another to solve. I will record my future voice-overs in 48khz but I already have a good deal done in 44.1khz and need to convert them (hours of voice-over work done there).

Sooooooo.....

What is the best way to convert 44.1khz audio to 48khz?

I am currently sending the files to compressor, converting them to AIFF 48khz 16-bit, and then re-importing them into my timeline. This process is very time-consuming, especially due to the hundreds of files I must convert.

Is there an easier/more streamlined methd of converting 44.1khz files into 48khz files?

I hope someone knows the answer to this and maybe will solve others' questions about why their video is so laggy.

find the files in the finder (if you don't know where they are, use "reveal in finder" in fcp.

Drag the files to a batch window in compressor. Make sure there all selected and drag the apple: format: audio: 48k 16 bit aiff on top of one of the items in the batch window. The preset should be applied to all items in the batch. Click submit. Should convert all the files and put the new files in the same folder as the original files.

You can customize the destination and whether the preset name is appended to the new file name.

If you make the new files the same name as the older files, you may be able to do a reconnect. What I'd try is move the 44.1 files out of their old folder, and replace them with 48k files with the same name and then launch the project and see if fcp will automatically reconnect. Worth a shot. Worst case scenario, you'll just have to manually replace the files in the timeline.

If you've finished editing, if you put all the 44.1 k material in a single track, you could just export just that track (by turning off all other audio tracks or duplicating the sequence and deleting all other tracks) and then just replace the track with the 44.1 material with the 48k file.

OK, so this appears to have worked. I converted the files by locating them in the finder and putting them all in compressor to work. I set the target to a separate file and renamed the clips with the same name as the original (the extension is different). Once they were converted, I was able to shift-select all of the audio clips in my timeline that needed changed, then control-click them and select "reconnect" out of the menu. Once the reconnect window was open, I used "locate" to find the folder the clips were in, and automatically change the audio clips to my 48khz files. Awesome!

Thank you all so much for your help, I really appreciate it 😁
