How do I Copy Slides

I have a collection of 35MM slides that I would like to transfer into my picture collection in iPhoto and subsequently burn onto a CD. I'm familiar with importing photos from my digital camera into iPhoto, but not sure how to get the slides into my computer. What 's the easiest way to transfer the slides into iPhoto? Going to a commercial site and having the slides copied onto a CD doesn't result in any lables for each slide. My scanner doesn’t appear to support transparencies (Canon LIDE 60).

Any suggestions or help greatly appreciated.

Hi Bruce,

What did you mean about labels for each slide. Doing them on a scanner or even through an existing camera will not result in any labels for each slide.

You can, however, give each one a new name after scanning and importing into iPhoto. Your best results would be to go to a Photo Precessor that offers high resolution scans of slides onto to a CD.

Hi Bruce,

Unless you have hundreds of slides, personally, I would opt for the commercial site. It takes some practice to copy slides through a digital camera, however, once you get it tweaked just right, you can probably copy quickly and to your own preferences. If your copying via scanner attachement, it's a bit trickier and with more variables. I have the device for scanning slides but could not do them fast enough and quality wasn't up to snuff.

If you happen to use a commercial site, like Ritz Camera, make sure you get high resolution scans. This way, if you wanted, you could get enlargements as big as 24 x 36" easily.

Whichever one you decide on, just remember, practice makes perfect or pretty close.

Hi Rick:

What I meant about labels was when I import photos from my camera into iPhoto, I can title (label) each photo after importing. What I want to do is once the slide is copied, title each photo. Commercial site will copy the slides onto a CD without titles.

So if I understand your suggestion, you're saying go to a commercial place, have the slides copied nto a CD, then import the photos from the CD into the IPhoto library and add my own titles?

Thanks,

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

To be honest, I do not import directly to iPhoto. I will usually create a folder on my desktop and download images into this folder either using Image Capture for a digital camera or simply drag contents of a CD or flash drive into the folder. I can then rename each photo, pick and choose which to import and when I'm all set just drag the images I want into iPhoto. It's much easier to do everything before you import into iPhoto...

This saves me time and space as I rarely use every image I take...

Hi Rick:

Did a practice run using a CD with previously created photos. Created a new file on desktop using Appleworks and then copied a couple of photos from the CD, renamed the photos on the new file OK. However, when I try to drag the photos from the file to iPhoto, I get a message that the image was not recognized. What am I missing, or doing wrong?

Hi Bruce -

Did you make a new file or folder? I meant just make a new folder on desktop and drag photos into this folder, rename your photos and import into iPhoto.

What type of image is it? e.g. what kind of extension .jpg .png .pdf ?
