logic 9.1.8 wan't run in 32 bit mode under maverick...someone can help me?

hi everybody.

i use logic 9.1.8 normally and perfectly under osx 10.6.8.

today i just update to osx mavericks 10.9.1 ( using an external HD with a carbon copy of my last setup to be safe just in case ) but now the problem is that i can't run no more Logic in 32 bit mode.

I can see and select the option " run in 32 bit mode" in the app info like before in snow leopard, but now when i run logic in 32 bit mode the program run only in 64 bit...

i tryed to reset pram and to fix privileges but with no success.

i see here and there that someone have not this issue under mavericks, and i can't find an official position about it.

any advice?

thanks.

Sounds like the Logic pro app itself has got some issues with it's permissions so the setting is not being saved correctly as LP9 in 32bit mode will and does work fine under Mavericks...

So.. Maybe it's time to use BatCHMod to fix the permissions for the Logic Pro app...

Download the app from here...

(Use the 1.6.3 version and not the latest beta....)

Run BatCHmod and select the Logic Pro 9 app from inside your applications folder.. using the File... button in BatCHMod

Check all the R W and X boxes... so they all have a checkmark in them and not a - sign or blank.. You may have to click on them multiple times to get a check...

Also check the Change Ownership and Priviledges.... Unlock...and Clear ACL's... checkboxes (but do not check Clear xattrs)

Finally check the "apply to enclosed files and folders' option... and then press Apply..

Wait about 30 secs... Quit Batchmod and then try and run LP9 in 32bit mode from the applications folder.. using the Get Info to change mode.. and not any shortcuts you may have placed elsewhere like the Dock..

Hi Pancenter..

There is often confusion over OS X and Apps running in 32/64bit..

OS X Mavericks..can run apps under both 32bit and 64bit.... if the app contains 32bit code...

Lion and ML are also both 64bit OS's....

Logic Pro 9 still runs under 32bit under Mavericks... just as it did under Lion and ML..

Its LPX that only runs under 64bit.. in Mav..... (or ML for that matter)

Actually, if you check certain other apps.. via the Get Info dialog box..you can still run those in 32bit mode too... Apple apps such as Safari (whuich I believe is the last default app of Apples that still runs in 32bit mode for some odd reason) and various 3rd party apps... ... where as other apps are only 64bit these days like Mail, Preview and TextEdit...

thanks,

i tryed the batchmode and now i can run in 32 bit mode but... JUST ONLY in 32 bit mode now. I can uncheck the "run in 32 bit" thing but everytime i try to run logic, i can't go in 64 bit.

So, i just restarted the mac, and now i'm like before batchmode: only 64 bit mode with no 32bit unit bridge at all...

So what you suggest?

Thanks really a lot, you're kind of a digital version of mr wolf

astukasastukas,

This sounds like you have a serious problem with permissions on your system.. maybe the Applications folder itself has bad permissions... which could explain why sometimes you can and then cannot change settings for an app...or you could have a general issue regarding permissions after moving stuff back and forth from another drive...

If I understood you correctly, you repaired permissions using the Disk utility, yes? if not, please do so.....

the art of sound you know what?

it works!

you was right, probabily something goes wrong with the "applications " folder. Can this maybe happens cause the carbon copy?

many many thanks, so happy to solve that. I'm moving to a big hardware upgrade ( last one 5 years ago, that's pretty much) and being a Pro musician i can't go wrong . Today i learned a LOT about permissions. Thanks, really. :)

Glad that worked as yes, it explains a few things....

So, to fix the applications folder itself....

Do exactly what you did using Batchmod for the Logic Pro app but this time just select the applications folder using the file button..and not a app.. and note: It will take much longer to actually complete this even though batchmod will seem to finish quickly... it actually carries on working in the background...I'd wait at least an hour or so before quitting batchmod or lauching any app... to give it a chance to really fix everything.... Patience is the key here!

Remember to set all the settings in batchmod exactly as you did before... and as before.. do not set the xattr one..

Then to test.. because we left a copy of the LP app inside the app folder... just test by changing the LP app that is still in the applications folder, over to 32bit mode and see if it remembers the setting correctly...
