Contacts not syncing properly

I've got 617 contacts on my phone

I've got 533 contacts on my macbook

I've got 533 contacts on my imac

I've got 533 contacts in the cloud

For some reason, it stopped syncing new contacts I added on my phone some time ago, and I cannot get it to start syncing again. I've tried all the usual switch things off, and on again, including waiting, downing the phone, restarting the mac(s) in between - everything - the only thing this has done is I've now got 1066 contacts on my imac!!

This is driving me mad - anyone got any suggestions, other than switching things off and on again?

Thanks

I'm having the same problem syncing my contacts to icloud with my iphone 5s using IOS 8.1 and my ipad 2 using IOS 8.1.

The only contact that appears when I log into icloud on my desktop window computer is my own.

I signed out of icloud on both devices as well as my computer and resigned in. The only things I'm syncing to icloud is contacts and "find my phone (which works for both devices)

I'm using the same apple ID and password across all platforms.

My contacts synced to my gmail and exchange contact list from work are syncing on both devices, however, contacts I set up on my iphone do not appear on my ipad.

Messages on my phone show names from my iphone contact list. The same messages appear on my ipad and only show phone numbers.

I saw something about contacts needing access to Port 443. How do I check if these ports are open on my phone and ipad?

good one about port 443, but very unlikely. Relatively simple to check, leave your network and try starbucks or any open network. Not the reason it does not work thou.

In order for icloud contacts to work your default account needs to be icloud on both devices. You can check by going to settings- mail contacts calendars - scroll down to contacts - find default account and pick icloud(one that belongs to icloud). Warning - you don't really need icloud contacts, cause according to you - you are actually successfully using exchange and there is no need to change. Please understand, I am currently using all of those - Google, exchange and icloud, but the way you decide where new contacts suppose to go is by picking that as default account. Original poster ignored that - but it was in last few lines of my very first response.

Hi, I'm having the same issue as ascotsgranny - I have reset sync services as per here: OS X: Resetting Sync Services - Apple Support

Set it up from the start to merge data. With iCal conflicts, I get a pop-up asking me to resolve. But with address book conflicts, there is no alert and it simply makes changes without any prompting (taking most recent data and overwriting the old). How can I get it to offer me a conflict resolution so I can choose which data to keep?

Would really appreciate some help! (NB I am not using iCloud: this is direct phone <–> mac).
