If this is a commercially issued DVD you can't, because they come with copy protection to prevent you doing exactly that.

The copy protection is imposed by the makers of the DVDs to ensure that you can only play the purchased disk on a DVD player, because once copied they would have no way of preventing illicit usage.

Presumably if you had the plug-in DVD reader you would be able to use it to play DVDs just as one can with Macs with a superdrive.

Since MacBooks aren't builded with superdrive, I don't want to always carry an external driver with me..

I have imported all my CDs in iTunes and I would do the same with DVDs. Most of recent DVD doesn't have copy protection, so there should be a way to import just like CDs.

By chance, did you find a way to to it ??

No, that's not my opinion or fact.

Simply that it is still illegal in most countries to break the encryption on DVDs, even to make personal copies.

Just get a DVD set with digital copy, it comes with iTunes redeem code, you can play DVD movie in iTunes smoothly.
