I just upgraded to OS X Mavericks. Since then my computer doesn't go into sleep mode after the screen saver turns on. Is there a way to set the screen saver to turn off and send it into sleep mode after a certain amount of time?

Sleep is separate to screen saver. To set sleep , go to system preferences > Energy saver. In contrast, your screen saver is adjusted through system preferences > desktop and screen saver.
It used to go into sleep mode after the screen saver had been on for 10 minutes or so, now the screen saver just keeps going indefinitely. I've checked the settings in both screen saver and energy saver but I can't find a way to set the screen saver to sleep after a certain time.
As far as I am aware, in recent versions of OSX (unlike windows), the screensaver is not linked to the sleep system. If you have set the screensaver to come on after 5 minutes idle and sleep (display and computer) to kick in after 15 minutes, then the computer should go to sleep 10 minutes after the screensaver comes on.
Try adjusting settings to see if it works.
