I have a 1 year old iMac that was working fine yesterday. This morning I turned it on, the Apple icon came up, the cursor twirled for about 15 seconds then screen went black. Tried several times with same result. Anyone have a suggestion on problem?
When posting in Apple Communties/Forums/Message Boards.......It would help us to know which iMac model you have, which OS & version you're using, how much RAM, etc. You can have this info displayed on the bottom of every post by completing your system profile and filling in the information asked for.

First thing to try is a safe mode startup http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US to see if it will start.
Try:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Then try starting in Safe Mode to see if it is now working. Note that starting in Safe Mode is slower than a normal start.
