Fitness App Shuts Down During Run

Hi everyone! I have a Nano 7th gen, and it recently developed a problem where, when using the Fitness app, it shuts down with about a minute left in the run. The iPod completely powers off--this isn't an issue with the app just crashing. I've power cycled off the iPod a few times, but it's still happening. It seems like the next step would be to restore the factory settings, but I'm hoping to avoid that because (1) I don't want to lose all of my saved runs, and (2) I don't want to have to recalibrate it again. Anyone else have a similar problem? Thanks!

To All:

I submitted a support case to Nike, they acknowledge the problem (case # 140424-003805) per my request and the link to this thread, and are sending the problem to development for resolution. Not sure what will be done or how long it will take to be resolved, hoping that Nike+ Support can get with Apple to fix the problem for us all.

Best advice is to disable voice prompts on the Nano during runs, until this gets fixed. Further, I know that this problem doesn't affect the iTouch using a shoe sensor - - that's my backup running device.

Best regards,

Runner Chuck.

So Paulva, do you still have issues with the nano? For me it's similar to your issue. I run with my nano and bose qc20i earphones, which have a conrol button with which I can check my run status. It'll tell me how far along I've gotten on my run and then the ipod will restart, losing my run information.

This *****! I have been running with nike+ for over 7 years, this is my 3rd ipod for running and it just bums me out that it won't work. Turning voice feedback off is no option for me since I run outside and I won't be looking at the nano screen 'cause I'd get distracted from the road.

I'm going to open a case with Apple and see where this goes. Hopefully they'll issue a fix we can load into our ipods.

So, I lost my run data for the half marathon I did this morning. I hear the female voiceover say I have 100m to go and then silence.. no more music, and no record of any of the workout, just the menu to start a new run...Grrrrr. Gee thanks, great finish. I have been a longtime user of the ipod and sensor through the generations (except the ridiculously small 6th) and the old website, and am just shy of 5000k on nikeplus. So now that my runs are disappearing with this ipod it's really frustrating. And of course losing today's run affects reaching my current running goal on nikeplus. 😠 enough that I went online to see if anyone else has this problem. While I am relieved to find this discussion and there is a temporary work around, it's pretty disappointing that it hasn't been fixed already since it is obviously been going on for a while. I've lost a couple runs in the past and just thought it was unusual, but today it's clear it is unpredictable. I am training for a marathon June 1 and not sure I can trust this unit to get me to the end without quitting and losing my history... The last thing I want to be doing is frigging with it and starting a new workout in the middle of a marathon. And to not have spoken feedback during a run that long kinda defeats the purpose!! There are a lot of other products out there, and people ask me if I use a cell phone and I always explain I use my ipod nano and have been for years. So how can I defend the product if it doesn't work? Maybe I just go dig out my old 5th gen if it will be more reliable. 😠

HI I have exactly the same problem.

With nike+ software activated and Nike sensor after some kilometers the Ipod reset and I lost the run data.

Apple store located in Bergamo (Italy) changed twice the Ipod but nothing change.

So I will try to turn off the voice hopening that this can fix...

Just to underline that also whitout the Nike sensor activated on the IPOD the device reset yet !!!!!

I tried to change the nike sensor but NOTHING CHANGE !

Apple please help !

I bought my 7th gen. in December & loved it. It worked fine until late Jan 2014 when it started cutting off 3/4 of the way through a run. I turned off spoken feedback in April and it works fine. I run a lot of out and backs and of course now I don't know when I'm 1/2 way. I was very dependent on the feedback for adjusting my pace, and for later seeing my time & pace on my splits. I gave up & bought a new touch which I hated. I took it back after 2 weeks. I think it's apparent that this is Apple's problem & that they have no intention of correcting it until they are ready to release an 8th gen. iPod, and that's just really sad.

I agree, I bought a GPS watch as a backup. As far as the ipod I haven't turned off the spoken feedback but I select the basic run and add a little extra distance than I plan to run and so far it hasn't cut out. I wonder if it may be related to a new longer distance run than I've run before since the first half marathon I had complete with the new ipod cut out before the finish. I'm not sure what will happen on my upcoming marathon but we shall see, and I have the GPS watch as a backup for my records. At least so far I'm working around it. I agree, probably won't be corrected until the 8th gen.
