Apple lightning to 30-pin adapter not working after 5s iOS 7.0.4

i bought a brand new $40 30pin to lightning connector and ot still doesn't work. The "genuis" said it could be a messed up pin inside the lightning port. If that's the case someone elses iphone should work, so we'll see... If not, I don't know....

I went in to the apple store yesterday. I am running 7.1.2. They erased the phone and set it up as new and still had the problem with my 30 pin to lightning adapter. So they gave me a brand new adapter and I had the same problem. Then they gave me a brand new phone and it seemed stable, but that was only temporary. On my ride home it lost it's marbles again. I went in today and bought a 30 pin to lightning cable, but even that yielded the same results. I will say, for me, it seems worse in the car when I am driving on a bumpy road. I don't know why that would be, but if the phone is sitting still, I generally have a stable connection.

this is really frustrating. I don't know if it's a hardware or a software issue, but yes, it did seem to become an issue after a software update, as I've had two of those adapters from the time I first got my 5s back in Jan and they were both rock solid. I hope they figure it out and make the correction for iOS8!

In Sydney Australia, I found a new IPhone 5 S running version IOS 8.02 could not get power or communication from either a newly purchased adaptor or one that had been purchased earlier for a family I Phone 5C. The adaptor cost $39 AUD and I was told explicitly it was ok for my IPhone 5S. Returning to Apple Stores to have hassles with kids trying to make ill-adapted accessories do the job for which they should have been designed is one **** of an impost.

The adaptors are manifestly looser in the female socket than the two Lightning to USB cables I have so far used on the same devices. For Apple not to have honestly and openly addressed this selling of gear unfit for purpose after so many months warrants effective complaint to whatever authority should be looking after such matters.

This problem seems to continue - I understand due to a chip within the proprietary Apple products, although that does not explain how they work for some products and not others. I have an iPhone 5s and a Bose SoundDock Series II with the 30-pin connector which is used for my old iPhone and iPod. Fortunately I did buy the version with the AUX input (3.5mm jack) - as it was needed for record player and other devices to be plugged in.

Whilst I have (stupidly) gone down the line of spending about a tenner on the 'cheap' Lightning to 30-pin adaptor (I bought a Dusk version with the AUX plug/jack thinking that this would be able to play audio), but this product does not work with my Bose (although on Amazon it displays in pictures it does???). I understand this is due to some technology within the Apple chip or possibly due to the digital/analogue reception between the iPhone 5, adaptor and Bose SoundDock.

My way to rectify the problem of the 30-pin to Lightning being unable to play sound:

I have an AUX 3.5mm jack-to-jack cable (can be bought for pence online) and this plays through my SoundDock. I also have a cheap 30-pin to Lightning connector, with a short lead between the two, so that the phone charges (with the adaptor) and the sounds can be played (through the AUX cable). Another bonus is that I spent less than a fiver to get my docking station working AND with the high quality sound that is expected from Bose. My docking station does not need upgrading, even the remote for on/off and volume control works!

Thought I would share this - just in case it helps anyone.

Long time iPhone user, first time with a problem I couldn't just google away. I recently bought a 2014 mini cooper and when I tried to plug in my iPhone 5S iOS v8.3 I got the message from the car that the cord wasn't supported. So I then attempted to use the crappy one that came with the coop to no avail. Apple forums led me to believe that the 30-pin adapter would solve my problems however it has only made it much worse (figuratively speaking). Now as soon as I plug in my Apple 30-pin adapter I get the message "This accessory is not supported by this device." After some searching I'm left with only two options, clean the lint from my lightning port (done) and return the 30-pin the the store (which I will try to do tomorrow).

My question is, are there any other work arounds for this problem that some might know of in the interim that I can try on my own?

It looks like the problem has still not been resolved, as recently bought a lightning to 30-pin adaptor so I can listen to music from my docking device, with my iPhone 5 and it does not work either. It's unbelievable that all this time they're still selling these faulty adaptors.

Agree it appears to be faulty 30-pin to lightning adapters. I took someone's advice by plugging the lightning side first and then plugging it into the 30-pin base of my iHome alarm clock. I was able to get both sound and power. I noticed in the process, I seemed to have twisted the cable. When I untwisted it, I kept sound, but lost power. Once twisted back, i regained power. My assumption is that there is a lose electrical connection on the lightning side or 30-pin that wasn't connecting originally. It's not great, but it's working now.

Yes! I am having the same problem but in my case its charging and syncing works but audio output does not work.

Ok I will do that. I will restore my phone fully just to make sure. And yes the adapter is 100% genuine I bought it from an authorised seller. Will it work? What if it does not work?

Then take it back to seller

I've just upgraded to 7.1 and it still doesn't work!!

Totally useless and not impressed.

So take them both back to Apple Store for the genius to see what the issue is
