ive heard you can put 6GB RAM in these macbooks. what is the differance from the dual chanel 4GB RAM? so, is which upgrade shhould i do???

It supposedly when you have two memmory sticks of the same size GB's and its matched and supposedly better then unmached RAM. ex. One stick of 2GB memory and one stick of 4GB which is 6GB total. but it was a concern that since it wont be dual-channel RAM.
OWC is a trusted source for RAM and they specify the 2 + 4 GB combination.
Your early 2008 MB is model 4,1.
