I can't get Apple mobile device support to uninstall

I'm trying to uninstall iTunes. Has to be done in a specific order. When I get to Apple mobile device support, it won't uninstall. . It says "Apple mobile device support wasn't installed on your computer. The installer encountered errors before Apple mobile device support could be configured". Then it says fatal error during installation. How do I fix this?

Windows Vista, says a fatal error occurred

I just received support for this. Basically, the latest update to iTunes won't install until all old versions of apple software are removed and many people can't get "Apple Mobile Device Support" to uninstall. The solution is to go to support.microsoft.com/fixit and use that tool to uninstall it, then restart the computer and try again to install iTunes. The support told me it usually takes 10-15 minutes for this tool to work, but took me almost an hour. Details: at the Fixit download site, skip optional step one and click on "install or upgrade software or hardware" in step 2. It then gives you many options. Find "fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled". It then looked for several problems, one of which was AMDS. I told it to fix that, and it finally worked...after nearly an hour of patience watching the little green slider go back and forth. Most people take less time.
