YouTube not working on Apple TV

Hi,

We have an Apple TV 2 and are experiencing streaming problems in YouTube for the last three days. At first we thought it was the internet, but streaming from the iPad worked fine. Also Netflix on the Apple TV worked well.

Anybody else experiencing this as well?

Thanks

All I hear is that Google has discontinued support for YouTube on AppleTV. Unfortunately, this is a hit for AppleTV. I have had an AppleTV since the very first version, upgrading each time a new Apple TV comes out. I had finally decided to ditch my ROKU since the new AppleTV can provide all of the content I use - that is until today when I wanted to use the AppleTV to view a YouTube video and YouTube is GONE!

Sounds to me like Google and Apple need to get on the same page. Content delivery is everything and if AppleTV can't provide the content I need, then I'll go somewhere else to get it. So Frustrating!

Oh - Thanks Winston Churchill - now we learn the truth. YouTube worked just great on my AppleTV until the last update and now it is gone. But if I want to buy the new hardware, I can get YouTube back. Figures. At the very least, a little notice from Apple would be nice letting users know that functions of their systems are going to change and explain why. But no - instead Apple just yanks away functionality leaving its customers to wonder what in the heck has happened.

I love Apple products and own all Apple products, but the way Apple does part of its business is so frustrating.

Truth is if you own an older AppleTV expect its functionality to dwindle away unexpectedly.

You said you had upgraded your Apple TV every time a new one came out, if this is correct there is no reason why You tube shouldn't be on your Apple TV.

It is a little difficult to know exactly which Apple TV you have got because those affected are not the current model or even the one before that but the one before that which came out 5 years ago, there also hasn't been a software update for them since June last year, are you saying You Tube disappeared last June.

If you have the latest Apple TV as you said, there is some other reason you don't have You Tube. In addition it was Google that withdrew support for the You Tube, so it is Google that would have been in the position to give you a bit more notice.

Apple should take some responsibility for this.

Although it was Google's decision to deprecate the older YouTube API I am sure they gave everybody lots of time to update their applications.

Apple and Apple alone made the decision not to support the updated YouTube API on their older devices.

I remember being very frustrated when Apple phased out the Apple TV 1 but was able to console myself with the new features which for me were mainly the Netflix app.

I see no reason to buy an Apple TV 3 just to get back the functionality I believe I paid for....

So I have purchased an Amazon Fire TV which will get me back on YouTube with the addition functionality of Amazon Prime Video.
