Burning disk image (.img) to Blu-ray burner with Disk Utility

Can Disk Utility be used to burn Blu-ray disks from an .img file that will play on commercial Blu-ray players?

I used FCPX to create a Blu-ray .img file on my desktop with File > Share > Blu-ray and in the Settings window I selected Hard Drive (Blu-ray).

Is it possible to use Disk Utility to burn Blu-ray disks from this .img file to an external Blu-ray burner attached via FW800? I want the resulting Blu-ray disks to play on commercial Blu-ray players.

If it is possible, will the process below work when burning Blu-ray disks from .img files with the Disk Image utility?

In the past, I have successfully burned DVD's from .img files using this process:

1. Open Disk Utility

2. Click on the disk .img in the left column and click Burn at the top of the Window.

3. Insert a blank DVD when prompted.

4. Click Burn again.

If a different process is required, what are the specific steps?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Al,

Thanks for the quick response.

I successfully burned my first Blu-ray disk this evening and it looks great.

I was very pleased to see that I could create the Blu-ray disk image and burn it all within FCP X and Disk Utility. I don't require fancy menus for my home movies, just chapter markers with lower thirds song titles at the start of each song. And the burn + verify time was only 23 minutes for the 1 hour and 22 minute Project.
