iPhoto keeps duplicating the same picture until my hard drive runs out of space

I recently used GrandPerspective to find out why I was running out of hard drive space and I found that the same random picture in my iPhoto was being duplicated endlessly in my "/private/var/folders/ld/wct9ztcs31l39bzxr1pngbq40000gn/T/com.apple.iPhoto/com. apple.iPhoto" folder.

Is there any way to fix this glitch? Thank you

That's not in your iPhoto, that's in the /private/var/ folder.

So whatever is going on there is at the OS level.

I'll willing to bet this is the problem. MacKeeper is essential malware and has corrupted many user's systems. Remove it and reboot. You may have to restore the system if a simpler uninstall doesn't do the job. Read more about it in this user's Tip: Do not install MacKeeper. It has links to instructions for uninstalling.

/ private / var / folders / bm / qhn93rlx05522by3j913py340000gn / T / com.apple.iPhoto /

That is a temporary cache, that is typically used by iPhoto, when it cannot write to the directory, where it should be writing, for example, when a disks temporarily goes offline, or there are permission problems with the folders it wants to write to.

I suspect permission problems with your home folder or some trouble with drive where your iPhoto library is located. Is your iPhoto library in your Pictures folder or on an external drive?

1. Yes, you have or had one of the very dreaded softwares on your system, MacKeeper. It has to go completely, also in TimeMachine when you had used it.

Read uninstall steps: http://www.macexpertguide.com/2012/11/16/uninstall-mackeeper-2012-2011-mac/

2. As far as I know the Adblock extension is not completely compatible with Safari 7, to be sure uninstall it (Safari Preferences/Extensions), then you can use AdblockPlus which uses the same database.

3. You still have Java (SystemPreferences), this can go because Mavericks has it's own solution inside. Open the Java Applet and disable it. Now you can delete the Java entries in /Library/LaunchAgents and in /Library/LaunchDaemons and in /Library/InternetPlugins .

Then CTL+click the Java applet in the SystemPreferences and choose "remove..".

You will never miss it.

4. check that Flashplayer is up to date, the version number should end with ....145

5. Restart, empty TrashBin.

6. As Leonie advises, start DiskUtility and in the 'First Aid' panel choose your startup partition (Macintosh SSD), then choose 'repair permissions', do not worry when it does not repair all permissions.

7. Answer the question where the iPhoto Library is. I suppose that you can delete the com.appleiPhoto folder in the /Bootcaches/ that will be recreated when necessary. Let Leonie advise about this.
