Internal superdrive not working after clean install of mavericks

First, thias has happend after upgrade to Mavericks as well with several other users has experienced. And for stating an obvious thing, adding comment to that you are experiencing the same problem WILL NOT HELP YOU or ME!

Comments like:

Its time to get an external drive then!

Is not helping, and it is also wrong. Do NOT POST that BS here! The drive is there, should work fine in Mavericks as it did in Mountain Lion!

Telling me to install a software that only checks the region code like some has done in other questions regarding the same matter is futile.

Or linking to any apple help pages i am sure will be a waste of time, since i've tried them already.

But if you have the solution at hand, please do bring it on. I have posted just about all intel i can gather of my mac here now, some of the info is in Norwegian, since this is the language i use.

The drive is visible in disc tools, but i cannot do anything in disc tool to activate it or anything (by finding it there and getting info from it, it sure communicates, but seems to be powerless).

Now i have tried everything i can think of: clean installation, resetting SMC several times (if it worked or i used the right command sequence i am not sure, since it stays dead still). I have tried resetting NVROM. I have tried DRUTIL in terminal. Tried just about anything exept searching for frameworks folder in the system directory to find an .plist and edit HeX codes (Dont wanna mess to much with that, not my area of expertiese) But if it helps i will.

Eject button is unresposive, which gives me the clue that there are some programatical with maybe the EFI/BIOS or what to call it, but i am not sure how to boot into that to check its options. I can push a disk just about half way in before it stops.

I've installed rEFIt to see if i can make sence of this and check if i can use that to do any trick, i dont know.

The only thing i am certain of is that since Apple no longer wants to beliver laptops with internal disc players, they forgot to think of all the people with older macs that still has. Or they forgot to mention that this update is not adviseble for older books.

Unfortunatly, no. And since my mac are out of the extended warranty period, i am screwed.

It seems to me that there are lack of driversupport in the Mavericks it self for the internal drive..

And the only place i can see my drive is in the boot config. But i cant access it from there either.

I am not pleased with it at all.

Kind of frusterating.

Tried earlier, no go.

Cant get a disc in.

As i told in earlier posts, done all that i can.

but it does say in : Power off: Yes , in one of the checks, and i do not know why

So i guess it have to be busted, although it has not been used so much that it should be damaged.

But if the system tells the drive to be in power off mode, how can it react to anything that i try?

Logically it cant, since there is no power supplied to the drive?

OKay Apple I counted over 23,000 people looking at this problem in several different links. What's up? Why did my iMac superdrive stop working after the last Maverick upgrade? I cannot get it to take a cd/DVD. This is no coincidence. This is a software problem. I have read most of the apple support suggestions, and tried all of them. NO luck. Why will my drive not accept a DVD/CD? It acts like it is off....like it is receiving no power.

We need a real fix for this, not some apple support guy reading from his apple support manual.

I too am having the same problem, I have quite a few friends (Genius') that work for apple and they also have had this problem with their iMac/MacBook Pro and so far no solution. It seems to be half the people that use a Mac have this issue and the others that don't are just lucky to say the least. I myself have this issue on my 2011 iMac, yet on my 2011 MacBook Pro everything is working fine. I have tried all above mentioned solutions as well and no luck so far. If there is anyone who has an actual solution to this issue please share it so 50% of Mac users like myself can stop pulling their hair out.

(1) So, I found a youtube video showing how to open up my iMac and replace a Disk drive. I opened it. I removed the disk drive. I opened the metal cover of the lid of the disk drive. It was clean and immaculate; so, it destroyed and debunked the dirty drive theory. But, just to make sure I sucked around the optical sensor with a vacuum and gently brushed it with a Q-tip.

(2) I then watched a you tube video showing how the drive operated (it was a drive supplied with power outside an iMac with a transparent cover unlike the opaque metal cover that we have on our drives). My scientific curiosity started to wonder if somehow the mechanical part (of the electro-mechanical assembly) was locked or jammed. So, I started messing with the arms with the utmost care after watching the video to see if i could move them manually. Yes on some. The main arm that is linked with the drive motor was immovable. The rest I played with a little bit, took great notice in the start of the video to see how the arms looked before inserting a disk. I then put it all back together.

It works now. My guess is that taking it out and then placing it back in along with the resetting options that others have done was the trick. I believe it is a possibility that the hard drive became locked mechanically in some strange manner after ejecting a DVD in conjunction with the uploading of the new OS. I believe the actual removal, reinstallation, and resetting of the drive put everything back into sync. My computer sits in a climate controlled dust free environment. I knew for a fact that this hard drive was OKAY.

yeah, this update is a pain in the you know what! To say the least. First I noticed sound was muted and I could not un mute it. Then everything was slow. Now when I power on enter my password, screen goes grey. And of all things the firmware is locked and the pass code for it doesn't work. Meaning the reset commands won't work. Called Apple and the only way it can be unlocked is by taking the lap top to them. Which, by the way I found out that's not entirely true. models from 2011 to current has to be taken to Apple.
