Internal superdrive not working after clean install of mavericks

First, thias has happend after upgrade to Mavericks as well with several other users has experienced. And for stating an obvious thing, adding comment to that you are experiencing the same problem WILL NOT HELP YOU or ME!

Comments like:

Its time to get an external drive then!

Is not helping, and it is also wrong. Do NOT POST that BS here! The drive is there, should work fine in Mavericks as it did in Mountain Lion!

Telling me to install a software that only checks the region code like some has done in other questions regarding the same matter is futile.

Or linking to any apple help pages i am sure will be a waste of time, since i've tried them already.

But if you have the solution at hand, please do bring it on. I have posted just about all intel i can gather of my mac here now, some of the info is in Norwegian, since this is the language i use.

The drive is visible in disc tools, but i cannot do anything in disc tool to activate it or anything (by finding it there and getting info from it, it sure communicates, but seems to be powerless).

Now i have tried everything i can think of: clean installation, resetting SMC several times (if it worked or i used the right command sequence i am not sure, since it stays dead still). I have tried resetting NVROM. I have tried DRUTIL in terminal. Tried just about anything exept searching for frameworks folder in the system directory to find an .plist and edit HeX codes (Dont wanna mess to much with that, not my area of expertiese) But if it helps i will.

Eject button is unresposive, which gives me the clue that there are some programatical with maybe the EFI/BIOS or what to call it, but i am not sure how to boot into that to check its options. I can push a disk just about half way in before it stops.

I've installed rEFIt to see if i can make sence of this and check if i can use that to do any trick, i dont know.

The only thing i am certain of is that since Apple no longer wants to beliver laptops with internal disc players, they forgot to think of all the people with older macs that still has. Or they forgot to mention that this update is not adviseble for older books.

This may not answer your problem to your satisfaction however it might explain why the drive will not work. I purchased a new 21.5 in iMac recently and since they no longer have a drive installed ( you can buy one from Apple for $80.00) I suspect there is no driver in the Maverick OS thus no worky in older Macs. By the way I sent it back and bought a Mac with the drive!

Thanks Apple!!!!

I know that I am pretty late to this party, but in case you still have this issue, here is what worked for me:

1. open terminal and type (but don't hit return): drutil eject internal

2. Slide disk into unresponsive slot (mine was completely unresponsive, as if the drive wasn't getting any power) as far as it will go, and with a credit card (or something that can aid in pushing the disk into the slot further) begin to kind of move the disk around on the spring mechanism that you can kind of feel the disk pushing against

3. hit return on the command in terminal (from step 1) and it should come back to life!

With step 2, In the event that your disk can only go in part way before pushing up against something blocking it, push the disk against that blocker as hard as you can and then do step 3. (see the comment from "whelanska" on Feb 6, 2014 @ 4:39 PM) superdrive won't draw discs in

This might take a few tries, but trust me it totally works! I was so stoked when I revived my drive last night after pouring through these user forums trying to find a solution and attempting everything every page told me to try.

If you haven't done so yet, try installing Apple's SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0, which is on Apple's support site at http://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201953 to see if that might help, even though it's not specifically for that problem, it seems to be important for making external SuperDrives work in Yosemite, and it is one step I used to get my SuperDrive to work in a USB external case when plugged into my MacBook Pro.

Please let us know either way, whether the firmware update helps or not in your situation.

Nothing has helped me. My internal superdrive in my 2010 iMac quit working the minute I upgraded to 10.9. It will recognize DVD but will not burn anything. It always comes up with medium sense errors. It will take discs in and eject but just not burn. I have used different media and tried to burn files that I had previously burned all with no success. I thought about upgrading to Yosemite but I see where people are having the same problems with it.

Saludos.
