I don't see any programs that stand out as known troublemakers.

Your Flash Player plug in appears to be out of data. You can update that in System Preferences/Flash Player/Advanced.

Java appears to be out of data and parts of it aren't loading properly. If you don't need it, un-install it.

Here's a summary of what you need to do: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait about a minute. Then paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.

You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.

If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.

The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important.

If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for your password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator rights.

The test may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. There is no indication of progress until it's done. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear in the Terminal window. If you don't see that line within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.

When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.

If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.

When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." That's because the forum software falsely identifies something in the post as a violation of the terms of use. If that happens, please post the results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

CleanMyMac is considered malware/"crapware".

You need to completely uninstall CleanMyMac per the instructions on the developer's website.

Also, you need to completely uninstall Avast antivirus. It isn't needed antivirus causes all sorts of issue with the normal operation of OS X and can interfere with OS X's own newer security features.

You need to update all of your third party software if there are OS X Mavericks updates that can be applied.

You may need to, ACTUALLY, go to the third party developers' websites if there are no updates through the Mac App Store.

Update all of your Web browser Internet plugins, also.

Also, if you have any connected, third party devices, like keyboards, mice, drawing tablets, hubs, card readers, audio/video interface devices, etc, you need to update the drivers for these devices to OS X Mavericks compatible versions.

The 10.9.1 update seams to no longer use OpenCL to access the graphic cards processor. I have two identical iMacs 2.4Ghz C2D with 2gb’s ram one running 10.6.8 and the other running 10.9.0. I tested the new OS by encoding a video for my phone on both iMacs using Handbrake. The iMac running 10.9.0 was 4 times faster than the 10.6.8 iMac thanks mostly to OpenCL (introduce in OS 10.7 or 10.8). One other difference was the graphic card was running hotter on the 10.9.0 machine, probably because it was being used.

When 10.9.1 came out I decided to update my 10.9.0 iMac. It took me a while to figure out the machine was running slower. After another encoding test, the iMac were encoding at nearly same speed and the 10.9.1 graphic card did not get hotter while encoding. Both are signs that the OS is no longer using the graphic cards processor. I would reinstall 10.9.0 on my iMac but I deleted the installer and can only find the 10.9.1 installer online. Hopefully the 10.9.2 update will fix this problem.

Completely uninstall ALL Google software per the instructions on Google's website. Currently, all Google apps, especially Google Drive AND Chrome, are not playing well and are NOT 100% compatible/compliant with OS X Mavericks.

Until Google releases a real "official" fix or a proper update for OS X Mavericks, completely uninstall all Google apps for the time being.

If you do not like Apple's Safari Web browser, as an alternative, try using Mozilla FireFox.

Mozilla constantly updates FireFox and just released a new update recently and is more stable on OS X Mavericks.

Make sure to update all of your third party software if there are OS X Mavericks updates that can be applied.

You may need to go the third party developers' websites if there are no updates through the Mac App Store.

Update all of your Web browser Internet plugins, extensions and add-ons, also.

Also, if you have any connected third party devices, like non-Apple keyboards, mice, drawing tablets, hubs, card readers, audio/video peripherals, digital devices, etc, you need to update the drivers for these devices to OS X Mavericks compatible versions by going to each device makers' websites and search for Software/driver updates that are Mavericks compatible, if available and if applicable.

Once you have completed all of this, restart your Mac.

Un-install using the developer’s instructions to make sure you remove all parts of the application. Some people recommend not installing an application unless you know how to remove it.

Hi Everyone,

I've got this problem too! I'm not sure I am computer literate enough to run the diagnostic code. I feel Apple could provide an update to fix the problems the update has caused.

I'll have a proper look at it again after I have backed up my computer and got a little more time.

I am so pleased to see others are affected too, but only in that I am not alone. I am not pleased they are affected too.
