I'm trying to make a small Leopard partition on a 3TB drive (I was thinking 30GB), because I need to run some older software. But the "slider" thingy only lets me get down to 121.96GB. That's WAY too much to allocate.
All the options are greyed-out.
Any ideas?

have you tried typing in a smaller number?
It won't let me. It's all greyed out!
I resized the window to max and was able to get it down to 61.1GB.

Are you using Disk Uitlity? Is this drive already being used and you are resizing an existing partition? Or is it a fresh install with an empty drive?
It's my existing Macintosh HD. I'm using it as my primary.
And yes, I'm using Disk Utility 🙂
Apple's Disk Utility does not resize disks (at least not without destroying the data on all the other partitions.)
As far as the minimum size of a partition... hmmm. I'll have to look into that.
This Apple doc does not state a minimum size...
Have you reduced the size of the existing partition to create a blank space that you can add a partition to? In the screen shot below you can decrease the size by using what the bottom arrow in step 3 points to. Once you have created a space, select the space and click where step 4 shows. If the space is bigger than you want, readjust the size using the Step 3 arrow and try again.
I don't seem to have the little "grip" resize thingy on the bottom right corner.

Well, i just tried too, stopping short of ruinign my drive of course, and i have the same limitation.
Apparently there is a lpower limit that is proportional to drive size

What's weird is that if you make your window big, and then drag it below the bottom of the screen, and then make the window even bigger… you can drag the partition down a little lower.
Seems arbitrary.
It looks like it's just a GUI issue. It won't allow you to make the partition smaller than the text itself inside the partition. Normally you can type in the size manually so not sure why yours doesn't allow it. Maybe it's because it's a fusion drive.
