Just how long does a full charge last and what is the iPod doing during that time?

If not covered by warranty, Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

Replace the battery youyrself yourself if you are up to it. Y can purchase a replacement battery for about $10-15
