Same thing happened to me today and I found the solution here in this forum. All you have to do it go to your downloaded programs...delete EVERYTHING connected to Apple (iTunes, bonjour, update app, etc ). There are 5-6 programs to delete. Then restart your computer...and download iTunes again. BY THE WAY, I tried returning my computer to the day before I did the iTunes update and that did not work!

Thank you otacon72 your steps worked perfectly for this issue. I have my iTunes music on an external hard-drive not the "C:\" drive. And even after following the steps you provided (I also uninstalled Bonjour) even though you did not mention it, but others did... Everything came back normal. iTunes even knew which external hard-drive contained my music files and it also retained all of the setting and it appers to have retained all the artwork as well. I have also spent many hundreds of hours updating artwork for my music. Your willingness to provide the steps you took has helped and is greatly appreciated. The last purchase I made was 1-5-14. And they were still there so I am not sure if turingtest2's suggestions will be needed by everyone.

I tried this and it cleared it up.

Delete the following files in this order. The order must be correct!!!

Use control panel "programs and features"

1. I tunes

2. Apple software update

3. Apple mobile device support

4. Bonjour

5. Apple application support

Once the files have been deleted download and re-install I-Tunes from the I-Tunes store.

Once installed it worked for me.

The frequently suggested repair steps listed in comments athttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926 did not work for me yesterday when I attempted for an entire day to fix this commonly reported problem with the newest iTunes update. I now realize that I overlooked one step listed in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.

My computer has a Windows 64 bit operating system. I should have paid attention to this instruction:

"If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, you'll need to confirm that the following folders have been removed:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Bonjour
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\iPod\ "

Tonight, I removed those previous version files from the Program Files (x86) directory and executed the rest of the steps listed. Success resulted. If you are struggling like I did to install the iTunes newest update on a Windows 64 bit operating system, you might benefit to recheck that you followed the instruction listed above.

I googled and read a number of ways of solving the MSVCR80.dll missing - none of them worked.

Finally, I uninstalled everything from my installed Programs which indicated it was owned by APPLE:

*Itunes

*Apple Software Update

*Apple Mobile Device Support

*Bonjour

*Apple Application Support

*Icloud

*Quicktime

*Safari

*MobileMe Control Panel

I am wondering whether the culprit might be Bonjour - in attempting to uninstall I received a message saying that I was unable to do this as the program MSVCR80.dll needed to be closed. I was given the option of ignoring this message which fortunately I did and Bonjour was uninstalled.

After uninstalling all APPLE programs, I shut down my computer. Upon restarting, I was successful in reinstalling Itunes.

This is not the first time Apple has succeeded in stuffing up the computers of millions of people with one of their software updates. This is very disappointing and I hope that in future the Apple technicians pay careful attention to what it is they are doing before they release updates to consumers.
