Service Apple Mobile Device failed to start

Hello, I tried to update my iTunes and was given an error message that something was missing. So I have uninstalled my iTunes and now when I try to reinstall it I am getting this message:

Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priveleges to start system services.

It then gives me the option to Abort, Retry, or Ignore. Nothing happens when I Retry. When I Ignore it says: iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).

I have run out of ideas on what else to try. Please help!

Hey kamealeilani!

You may want to try completely uninstalling iTunes and then re-downloading the program:

I'm getting the same error message and I followed your instructions to no avail. I currently cannot download/install iTunes at all. And now that I've completely uninstalled iTunes completely, I can't do a system restore, either, to get the old version back...nor can I download an earlier version from your website.

I've tried disabling my antivirus software. I've tried downloading/installing in both Firefox and Internet Explorer, which are both updated to the latest versions. Apparently iTunes doesn't want me to have this program on my computer anymore. I wish I had never clicked on the "newer version available" button to update!

What do you suggest, now?

I continue to have problems after following these steps as well. I think there may be something up with the update you guys sent out. This really makes me mad because I cannot access my iTunes on my computer and am needing to get on and it's not possible right now.

What suggestions do you have? I'm not even able to install on another computer because my music library won't be there because I am not willing to spend the money so that my iTunes libraries can be transfered through the cloud. I feel there needs to be something done about this issue. I hoped being gone all weekend and trying again today after getting back that my problem would be resolved, and it's not.

Everytime I have tried to reinstall, I get the same message: Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to verivy that you have sufficient priveleges to start system services.

This is really making me mad as I have three apple products all connected to my iTunes account and I can't update them. Please help me with this because I'm out of ideas.

Hey I finally got an older vesion of itunes to work!!! 10.7 x64 for windows 7
After uninstalling all apple products even quicktime
I had to delete everything from (program files, and program files x64, program data,)
And all downloads from apple, and I went in to search deleted other stuff from apple, and itunes
But definently not my itunes library and Playlist
Down loaded 10.7 x64 for windows 7, but checked (do not start when done)
Then I emptied my recycling bin and restarted my PC
I ran geek tech tool box same as reg cure pro, also PC Tools registry cleaner, and CC Cleaner
Then I emptied my recycling bin and restarted my PC
And wallah... It finally works, and I Love the older version anyways.
Easier to download and transfer music!!!!!

I did all that, too, three times today - and it did NOT work. I could download/install itunes, but when I went to start it, it wouldn't open and I got a message saying something about the library.dl was a newer version and wouldn't work. I'm not a tech geek, so I didn't go messing with my registry, but I did uninstall everything related to apple on my computer, then restarted and then installed. I even unchecked the box about scheduling updates. I did not have a box that said to automatically launch/start. Each time after I did this, when I tried to open itunes, I got the same message about that file being unable to open because it was built on a newer version.

I got the download from Old apps. where did you get yours from?

If you downgrade to an older version of iTunes it will generally have a problem reading your library. You either need to reinstall the current build of iTunes or revert to an older copy of the database using the method in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash. If you want to try the upgrade again see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

It isn't there at all. And I have no "user's music". I don't download music from itunes; just play what's there and use it to play audio files. I'm done with it. I agree with one of the poster's here that something's wrong with the update. When I download the update for itunes 11 and try to open it the first time, I get a message saying it's not a valid win32 application. And it downloads in part 1 and part 2. Something's wrong and I'll just go without itunes until apple decides to fix it.

Forgive me, I thought you were referencing the error message:

"The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes"

Windows auomatically creates a folder called Music, My Music, or <Username>'s Music in your profile folder. iTunes creates a library folder called iTunes inside this. If you have ever used iTunes to play music then a library has been created.

FWIW the user tip Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates provides an alternative set of iTunes repair instructions to those given in the community specialist's post above.
