update 11.1.4 won't install on my laptop. Now I can't get iTunes to work at all.

Thanks go out to TT2 as this fixed my itunes problem.

I'm wondering if this whole thing could've been avoided by manually downloading the latest Itunes and then installing it by right clicking the file and selecting run as administrator.

I think in the future I may just bypass the apple software updater and just do it manually.

Yes big thank you to TT2 you fixed my itunes, my Saturday was ruined and the mallet almost came out to fix it, but following the uninstall worked perfectly!!

Uninstalling:

• iTunes
• Apple Software Update
• Apple Mobile Device Support
• Bonjour
• Apple Application Support

And then reinstalling iTunes (without any reboot) from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ should fix the problem.

It did for me.

I was affraid my history etc. would be gone after uninstall, but everything still the way it was before.

Podcasts, music, playlists, apps, everything.

After repeated trys, I was able to install Itunes successfully on my desktop computer, but my laptop continues to have problems. The Apple Mobile Device Support component refuses to retart, I tryed everything suggested, and of the writing of this comment, it still won't start....I'am installing itunes on " Adminstrator " and it still won't restart the AMDS. I would appreciate any new suggestions !!

Just had the same thing happen on my desktop.

I have vista, and followed all these steps and when I try to open itunes after the install I get nothing now. No errors anymore but itunes does not respond.

Try again using the slightly more detailed process outlined in HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. It may help to use safe mode if you find yourself unable to remove any of the folders recommended in the instructions.

I tried that, Repairing through Programs and Features, it didn't work, I'm out of options. The error stems from the Itunes installer, it won't let me complete the installation, i wind up aborting it, and if i click " Ignore " and continue, i get all sorts of error messages, when i try to bring up itunes.

Try again using the advice I've given to chasm123 above. Sadly it seems to have taken some users a number of trips around the block to get everything completely cleaned out, but the install goes successfully afterwards.

the fix took 10-15 minutes (after my thinking and planning thru it) just got a little hung up on uninstalling apple mobile device so I went ahead as TT suggested and voila--back to normal.
