update 11.1.4 won't install on my laptop. Now I can't get iTunes to work at all.

Update 11.1.14 gave me an error message saying that I should download it and then try to install it manually. I can't seem to do that either. Now iTunes won't open at all. What do I do now? Have I lost everything I had loaded on iTunes?

You ought to install the current version. Havng gone through the repair process it should install without any issue. Rolling back to an older version creates problems with reading the database file, although depending on where the original install got to that may not have been updated.


I'm a night owl by preference, although work sometimes puts paid to that.

for others, that also sets up a decisionor non decision to use system restore-sounds like the right way uninstall and reinstall using 11.4.


of course system restore might work well esp if Apple fixes this problem sometime-but then til apple fixes this those with win 7 just ignore itunes updates

Thank you turingtest2 for the posts. I will add that I had originally tried to download the installer to reinstall, but for some reason it wouldn't download in Firefox...it prompted for the save name/location but then just went to the "thank you" page. I had to use IE. Uninstalling everything as directed, rebooting, reinstalling iTunes, and unplugging and replugging my iPhone seems to have worked fine for me.

I'm on a Windows Vista laptop and followed the instructions to uninstall. I also uninstalled iCloud. Even though one of the Apple elements (sorry, I can't remember which one but it was about 25mb) appeared not to uninstall, I continued with the process and then restarted the laptop. I then reinstalled iTunes from my downloads folder and it worked correctly this time. The process from start to finish took about 45 minutes. My iTunes library appears to be present and correct.

Got the same problem here. Couldn't uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support (results in "fatal error during installation"). Version installed is v7.0.0.117.


Since I have nothing to roll back (won't risk destroying my other applications for this trash), I tried running “repair” on Apple Mobile Device Support (click on the “support information” link within the add-remove programs dialog to find it). That process stops with an error because the service won’t start. I clicked “ignore” and the process completed without further errors. Then I tried uninstalling Apple Mobile Device Support through add-remove programs. That worked.


It appears that all Itunes programs were successfully removed (can’t find the directories). Not sure if the library is still intact (two files wouldn’t copy when I backed it up before starting the update).


Just for good measure, I ran Tuneup Utilities registry cleaner to fix up some of what Itunes botched. It found about 50 issues with missing program files and other registry entries left over from the bad install, including an autostart entry for apsdaemon.exe. That was one of the first Apple programs that gave me (and others) errors when rebooting.

It seems Firefox has issues with the iTunes download page. Another browser like Google Chrome might work better.

Work through the repair process outlined here. There is no telling when an updated iTunes installer from Apple will arrive, or if it will be able to repair those installations that are currently broken.
