update 11.1.4 won't install on my laptop. Now I can't get iTunes to work at all.

Update 11.1.14 gave me an error message saying that I should download it and then try to install it manually. I can't seem to do that either. Now iTunes won't open at all. What do I do now? Have I lost everything I had loaded on iTunes?

Reinstalling iTunes or running its repair process alone won't resolve the problem. You need to work through the following process...

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. Some users may need to follow all the steps in the appropriate support document which includes some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

Thank you for this information. My iTunes had this update problem this morning on my Windows 7 machine. I had one problem, Apple Mobile Device Support refused to uninstall using the normal Windows Unistall program so I ended up using CCleaner to remove it. After that I was able to follow through and get iTunes installed and running again.🙂

Thank you again for the useful information!
