I spent several aggravating hours trying all kinds of things from all kinds of well-meaning individuals, including replacing registry keys, removing/replacing all Mobile Device Support files and drivers (copied from a working machine (fail #1) and downloaded from one of the well-meaning individuals (fail #2)), and installing previous versions.

Your solution is the ONLY one that worked!

I cannot remove Apple Mobile Device Support but i still reinstall Itunes and it worked anyway and i have no lost my music and my vidéo on my Itunes and my Iphone

I spent the better part of the day dealing with this issue on 2 PCs after trying to update iTunes. I finally fixed them by running a system restore and have both iTunes working again although I have gotten the message that 11.1.4 is available. Of couse I haven't run the update again. Being a person who likes to keep his software fully updated I wonder what I am missing if I don't install this update and just continue with what I have. (11.1.3.8) Is there any pressing issue or great advance that comes with the new update?

I just experienced the same issue....couldn't delete Apple Mobile Device Support. Restored back to last version and am back on.....will wait to see if there is a fix by Apple for this.

Removing all the items as listed by you, then reboot, reinstall worked for me.

All my music etc. was there - no problems.

Rosehill......I finally got it to work as well using the fabulous instructions from turingtest.......

But, very interesting.......I am also having issues with Outlook 2007.........taking forever to load and superslow, ......started immediately after this recent itunes nightmare.

Can't be coincidence if both you and I are experiencing Outlook 2007 strangeness. How it could be connected is beyond me, but would love to get it fixed.

Thanks in advance for any ideas on how to sort out this iTunes update collateral damage.

Might be nothing, but I've seen a couple of posts related to Outlook issues and the discontinued MobileMe service. If still have the MobileMe control panel then you should probably remove it. See HT2992: MobileMe: Uninstalling the MobileMe Control Panel for Windows for details.

Thank you!!! I thought I was only one with this problem. I should have come to Support Communities before I spent so many hours loading and reloading. Was ready to throw ipod into local river and give up as a lost cause. Will be more cautious next time I do upgrade and won't blindly follow the prompt that a reinstall will fix problem.
