update 11.1.4 won't install on my laptop. Now I can't get iTunes to work at all.

Update 11.1.14 gave me an error message saying that I should download it and then try to install it manually. I can't seem to do that either. Now iTunes won't open at all. What do I do now? Have I lost everything I had loaded on iTunes?

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

System Restore may get you working again, it has for some, but I think it is a bit of a lottery. You might still find you need to work through the removal and update stages.

Boy am I glad TT2 replied to this problem as following the above instructions exactly fixed the problem with, thankfully, no loss of any music or media folders in my iTunes library. As with another user I had to uninstall 'Apple Mobile Device Support' using the CCleaner, other than that it all went according to TT2's instructions. Given that our family's library is about 200 GB of music and other media this could of been a disastrous weekend.

Shame on Apple for releasing an update that, basically, amounted to a virus that infected and adversely affected its own software. Don't you test this stuff before unleashing it on an unsuspecting public. Come on get your **** together.

The current build is 11.1.4.62, the previous build was 11.1.3.8, however there are no obvious public links to that version on Apple's site. Have you tried the detailed uninstall and reinstall instuctions?

Ah, if you have successfully reinstalled iTunes 11.1.3 (or the last build that you were using) then you may also need to restore a previous version of your iTunes library database in the manner described inEmpty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash. The alternative is to reinstall the current version. If you've cleaned up in the way suggested in the support document a fresh install should work without problems.

As given in some versions of my advice on this issue...

Install the current version from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ It should work fine.
