MSVCR80.dll missing, cannot install iTunes

turingtest2 thanks much. this too worked for me. One thing that I added is I saved the Itune load to my pc so I could open the actual folder that the file was in. You can then right click the setup file and run as administrator.

This is the second time that we got an Itunes update and it either killed my 4s, or it killed my itunes. I miss Steve Jobs.

ps. my power button doesn't work on my 4s either. known issue.

I tried removing MobileMe as suggested by one user. That didn't work. I tried going into msconfig in Windows 7 and disabled one startup program. The program was Apple Push, which uses APSdaemon.exe and apparently needs msvcr80.dll. After disabling this startup option, I no longer have an error on startup. If anyone in Apple is listening, please fix this and let us know if this startup option will affect any other features. So far I haven't had a problem.

MobileMe is a discontinued service, you should remove the control altogether. See HT2992: MobileMe: Uninstalling the MobileMe Control Panel for Windows for details.

I just wasted the entire day trying to get the new version working. And now Apple seems to have removed the 64-bit windows download entirely as I am no longer able to download it.

The only version I can find on my system is from Dec 9th 2012. Will I cause myself problems if I try to i nstall that or should I wait for a fixed version of whatever they released on Thursday?

I hate losing entire days to a routine update. I know most of it's probably Microsoft's fault, but getting an installer right isn't rocket-science.

Thanks to google I found this 🙂. I was getting the same error messages and I took your advice and I was able to sucessfully install the latest version of Itunes. I have been at this for the last few hours but I'm good now 🙂. Thanks!!!

You should be offered the correct 32 or 64 bit version for your sytem, otherwise this link should work: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1615

After the initial update and now two uninstalls and re-installs (via the Microsoft FixIt for uninstall problems when Mobile Device Support refused to go away),

I am still in the exact same spot I was in 6 hours ago 😟

I'm using Vista 64-bit Home

At the end of the iTunes installation I get two error messages:

Apple Mobile Device service failed to start. If I look at mmc -> Services I can see the service but it tells me I don't have permissions to start it. I cannot Run as Administrator as that option was not given to me (even when right-clicking). I have administrator privileges on the machine.

The second error message I get is Apple Application Support not found please uninstall and re-einstall (again!!!!)

What should I try next?

You could try repairing components from the programs and features control panel. Or you could try tearing it all down again, then booting into safe mode to destroy relevant folders that don't get removed automatically. Depending on the flavour of Windows you might need a shift or a ctrl or both or some other magic incanation to get the Run as... Administrator option.

Wonder why Apple allows the update to remain problematic after at least 2 days!
